Hi, I picked up a 2133 remote for kicks recently and proceeded to install
the Extender. I didn't get very far and after a quick poke around the board
here, I see someone else had my exact problem:

Since this post was over a year old, I was wondering if anyone has
a fix for it..

Thanks,
Mongoloid

I made a few minor changes to the places that might be causing the problem, but this is a long shot. I don't expect this getting fixed in the first attempt.

Please try this image and see if it makes any differences. Also let me know if you are willing to continue testing a few more versions if this doesn't work. I'll try, but I can't guarantee if I can make it work.

This is for testing only - Don't touch the timer and shift key settings yet.

Thanks,
Hal

Hi Hal, and thanks for the quick response. I just gave it a try and I don't
see any difference, and yes I'll keep testing them as long as you wanna
keep working on it. Smile

Thanks,
Mongoloid

Perhaps we'd better trying to verify your remote is not a different version/variant.

Could you create the virgin image and post it in the diag area?
To create it:
  1. Start IR.exe, choose "Advanced">"Initialize to $FF" and answer Yes twice to upload the initialized image.
  2. Take out the batteries, press any button then put the batteries back. (Cold starting the remote)
  3. Perform the 981 reset.
  4. In IR.exe, choose "Remote">"Download from Remote", answer Yes to download than save the image into a file.

It might help if you post what's printed on a sticker in the battery compartment or the PCB. (I don't have 2133 anymore but we can ask other forum members to see if anyone has different ones.)

Also a few questions:

Does it give 4 blinking-like animations when you hit the Power button right after loading the extender image?

Can the remote send any signals at all after the activation? Or does it just locks up immediately?

Ok, I have uploaded the virgin dump:

[/url]

As far as useful info on the remote goes, printed on the bottom of the remote is:

Radio Shack
Remote Control Cat no. 15-2133
Custom Mfd in China for
Radio Shack Corporation
Forth Worth TX 76102

And there is a small plain white sticker that says "0 6 A 03" inside
the battery compartment.

After hitting TV Power, the remote does about 4 blinking animations,
switches to Sat mode, the remote dims to the set level and locks
up tight (Sat is still animated). Only an upload brings it back to life.

I should have also mentioned that I have physically cut out the
the motion sensor. I don't see how that could matter, but I thought I
best mention it. Smile

Your image looks the same as the one from what I used to write the extender. There's still possibilities yours is a different version, though.

Motion sensor mod shouldn't matter. The remote should wake up by a key press.

Do you mind checking the version printed on the PCB, something like URC-8060-BXX, also?

Also another test - please try using the Device Combiner in RM or KM without the extender. Combine some devices you have and see if it works fine.

I'll keep trying to spot any other suspicious code in the extender. (This might take some time. Please be patient.)

Ok, the model on the PCB says "URC-11-8060-B00/B01 UEIS-10179".

My results from the Device combiner were, well not promising..

Of the 2 devices I put in:

The first sends the transmit icon in to a endless loop and remote
locks up.

The second (assuming I did not press anything from the first device),
animates the transmit properly... but also animates the AUDIO device
as well (releasing the button stops the AUDIO animation) ... It's does
not appear to actually send the command..

Doh! Ignore my last statement about the second device and the animated Audio icon.. I had the VPT on..

After a little more playing with the Device combiner:

Any of the devices in the combiner will correctly send the first command
pushed then lock up with the transmit icon endlessly looping, rarely
the remote will reboot it itself..

This means your configuration is correct. It's not objvious externally, but seems to be a different version. Sad

I can try if you want to send me the remote. Perhaps I'll try for a week or so and return it regardless whether I can make it work.

Let me know and I'll pm you my address.

putting any more money in to it.. Smile

I am just a little bit confused here and because of that I have avoided jumping in. I have to ask a question. Are we talking about a 2133 or an 8060. They actually look alike but are very different inside. What is confusing me is the RS 2133 on the outside and URC-11-8060-B00/B01 UEIS-10179 on the PCB. UEI may be putting 8060 guts in the 2133's for RS now.

Try loading the 8060 extender and see if that works.

Nils, I believe his remote is a RS 15-2133 according to the virgin image he posted. UEI just reused the same PCB for 8060 and 2133 with different ROM and skin. I still remember seeing 8060-B00/B01 on the PCB of 2113 I used to write the extender.

I asked it anyway by hoping there's something distinct from the outside, but doesn't look like the case.
