After Rob suggested I give JP1 a try, I started to read Tommy Tyler's bible "JP1 For Beginners;" ordered a ready-made interface from Hovis (his "basic designs" almost gave me a heart attack); and joined the Yahoo group (at least initially) to locate for download the IR203.zip (or later) file and the 3 spreadsheet files he mentioned. Went to File>Programs and Files>Spreadseets as instructed, and if they're there I could not find them. Any basic help in this regard would be appreciated.
Has anyone considered writing a book entitled "JP1 for Real Dummies" with step-by-steps and LOTSA PICTURES? Rob? I'd buy a copy in a heartbeat.

try JP-1>(yahoo)files>tools for IR, KM and RM. there's several Jp-1 for beginners docs, including here in one of the forums as a "sticky". KM and IR also have "readme" files which should help. KM does require having Excel, Rm requires Java. You can find a link in tools for the required java.

Sure, I've thought about it, I've even thought of making a video to show you how to build a JP1 cable and modify a remote too.
The main problem is knowing at what level to pitch such information. When Tommy wrote the "Beginners" doc, his intention was to answer every foreseeable question, but in doing so the document became very long, so much so that most people are intimidated by it and skip it and end up asking the same questions anyway.
If we'd have made it more concise, there would have certain steps that got glossed over and some newbies would have been tripped up by this. _________________ Rob
