I don't need any assistance with the original remote codes for the DVR-520HS.What I am looking for are the codes for the Pioneer service remote GGF1381. This special remote is only sold to service centers or
dealers.

In order to upgrade the hard drive to a larger one on a
Pioneer DVR-520HS DVD recorder, you need this special
remote control to authorize the unit to accept the new
drive, along with a service manual and a special data CD-ROM. Both the CD-ROM and the service manual are available directly from Pioneer.

It may be just wishful thinking that someone at this group may have such a remote and would be willing to capture the codes and post them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is that file only contains the service codes required to do the HD upgrade.

Service manual is not required as upgrade instructions are in this thread

Problem is getting the special DVD. Pioneer will only sell to authorised service centre, it seems. Read that thread.

Anyway, if the gurus here will convert that pronto file and put the jpi equivalent into the yahoo group, it will be much appreciated.

Thanks "sub0", the links you posted were indeed where I had gathered the information I have so far. I downloaded the pronto files and converted them to jp1 codes, however I found several errors in either the capture of the the codes or in the conversion process. I am a relative rookie at this. It is the 1st pronto file I had converted.

However "Robman" , I assume after cleaning up the errrors, came up with essentially the same info I would have used. I feel much better about that. I am sure he has done so many of these that he cannot count any more.

It would have been nice to have the complete set of codes but this should suffice.

Lastly, I am very impressed with the both of you.

I downloaded the pronto files and converted them to jp1 codes, however I found several errors in either the capture of the the codes or in the conversion process.

I saw a couple minor glitches in the '9' code and a minor glitch in the '0'. But those were all the least serious kind of learning/decoding glitch: The full correct signal was present and decoded correctly but there were some extra fragments at the beginning and end.

When you look at DecodeCCF output, you need to be able to ignore such fragments.

I looked to see if there were harder things that needed Rob's high level of Pioneer knowledge (or things we've seen in other Pioneer service codes that might even fool Rob). There were no such problems in this CCF file. Just simple Pioneer signals plus those fragments I mentioned.

It is the 1st pronto file I had converted.

It would have been nice to have the complete set of codes but this should suffice.

I scanned my massive collection of CCF files for any containing that "ESC" signal (which seemed a distinctive part of the service remote). There wer zero hits, which I guess means I've never before downloaded a CCF file which contains that service remote. That was rather disappointing. But I haven't downloaded every Pioneer CCF from RC. There might still be a better service remote in there.

When people learn signals using a Pronto, they don't usually run a program like DecodeCCF or CCF2EFC against it to verify that the signals look "clean", as far as they're concerned, if they work, they work, that's it.

On occassion, rather than capturing one nice clean repetition of the signal, they end up storing 5 or 6 repetitions of the signal, which is what you were seeing for a couple of the buttons in this CCF.

If you look closely at the data, you'll see that all the buttons that have bad looking decodes, have several decodes associated with them, and at least a couple of the decodes are valid Pioneer signals where the device code and command code are the same for each of them. I think the decode showed up as NEC2 rather than Pioneer for one of the buttons, but this was simply because the frequency dropped slightly below 40kHz.

Therefore, there were good decodes mixed in with all the bad decodes, for all the buttons, so I was able to get the complete set of codes.

Thanks for the info guys! I have seen some of the same kind of glitches that we found on the 0 and 9 keys when capturing codes off of some of my remotes. It looked to me like some of the info was still okay and I deleted the erroneous entries. The only part that had me a bit woried is that you need to enter a serial number with remote to have the unit accept the new hard drive. If I was not able to enter a 9 for example, then the upgrade would fail and I probably would not be able to use the old drive either, because you have to delete the old info first. A little scarry, the unit costs around $430. You know how it is, there is nothing like clean data!

Anyway, I feel reassured and I appreciate all your help and tips. Hats off to the masters!

I thought we (you, Rob and I) had a discussion about it when we found it. But I don't remember the URL and I might be misremembering any or all aspects of it.

To the extent that I do remember, Pioneer had a signal in which the function's check byte was intentionally "wrong".

Well, lets thanked Robman and Johnsfine. I did nothing other than post the link, which you should have done in the first instant.

If you succeed in the upgrade, post back your results. I don't have the pioneer now. Had got the DVR220 for Cdn$299 during boxing day. Liked it so much I returned it until I can afford the DVR520. (the clerk's eyes popped when I put the "reason for return" as "liked it very much" ). The DVR520 has been dropping C$100 each week for the past 3 weeks. If the trend continues another couple weeks, I'll bite.

I have found a complete set of IR codes for this remote elsewhere on the net. However, they were captured using WinLIRC.

The partial set of codes from the earlier post at the link above worked fine. But it would be nice to have the complete set of codes in JP1 format for some other, or future need.

My project is completed at this time so I am in absolutely no hurry at all. Some of the other members of this forum may be interested in these perhaps?

I compared the file from the earlier post to the WinLIRC text below and could see no way to convert the file myself. I also searched the forum for WinLIRC file conversions and it seeems like they are often a pain.
