JP1 Remotes

I looked at the current 1.18 RDF. I don't see anything that resembles temporary device commands, such as DEV_RCVR in the 8910 or X_TV in 88?? The only thing I see are commands equivalent to SET_OTHER, SET_VOL ... keyGroups. Is the way to use this extender completely different? Are there instructions beyond what's in the readme file? I just did few searches and haven't stumbled on any good examples.

I asked in another thread how rough is the installation. Nils answered:

I see a blurb in the readme file about preserving keymoves and macros. That's cool. To preserve notes, I might try using the IR file instead. Are you looking at the correct RDF? It is C7L0X7L0 (URC-7800_6800 Extender).rdf and it has the device functions in it.

You need to open the .txt file that is in the zip file by changing the file type in the open command of IR to txt. When you save it it will be saved as a .ir file.

There are instructions in the read.me file on how to copy over keymoves but you will definitely loose your notes unless you can figure out how to copy them into the .ir file after copying your keymoves.

IF you get smilies in your posts when you don't what them, you can disable them for that post, in the Options section below when you type the message text.

Oooops, your right, there are no temporary device selections in the RDF. I am not sure how to do temporary device selection so I guess you use the native device commands.

I haven't looked at URC-7800 extenders in so long that I recall virtually nothing.

I do recall that I hadn't yet thought of the idea of temporary device selection.

Nicola (the first extender author) had thought of the idea of push/pop for the current device selection, to fill the same need we now fill with temporary device selection. When I started using the dynamic HT ideas, I recognised that didn't combine reasonably with the push/pop, so that problem lost its solution. Later I realized temporary device selection was a better solution. But I don't think I ever released a urc-7800 extender using that.
