Key moves do not function on my URC-9800 for my GI 4DTV (0869 or 0361).
I tried IR and manual entry on the remote. KM up grade is no help due to the
50 bite limitation of the 9800. Please help.

This is a 2-byte protocol, so let KM generate the hex code for you, then enter the keymoves using 2 bytes of hex instead of the 3-digit EFCs

I tried the hex code for both the OBC and the EFC, no luck.
IR gives the OBC for Select as 028 (no EFC) using the remote learning keys.
KM gives a hex of C4 EC for the OBC and C7 EC for the EFC,
neither is functional.

The OBC for SELECT is indeed 28. I'm assuming that that's the function you are trying to program via a keymove. So, I downloaded the 4DTV file and opened it using KM, where in the Functions sheet I can see that the hex code for this function is "C4 EC".

Next, to program a keymove, you go to IR.exe and select the Add Keymove function. Select SAT as the device type and enter 0361 as the Setup Code. Then select the Hex Cmd radio button and enter "C4 EC" as the hex code.

Incidentally, the "C4 EC" code is programmed on the ENTER button on the URC-9800 as part of SAT/0361. So the easier option might have been to just do a regular, manual key move on the remote itself.

I have already tried both of your suggestions for both set up 0361 and 0869,
neither functioned.

Can you confirm that the ENTER button performs the "select" function?

If so, are you saying that you tried using the key mover function (on the remote, not using IR.exe) and that didn't work? If so, I must suggest that you are doing something wrong.

Maybe you should do the manual keymove, then download the URC-9800's memory using IR.exe and post it in the diagnosis area so we can see what's wrong with it.

The Enter button on the remote is OK. Manual key move is on Surround.

How did you do that key move? I'm guessing that all you did was assign an advance code using [9] [9] [4] <efc digits>, which would explain the single byte shown in IR.

What you want to do is:

Press Setup (wait for the LED to blink twice)
Key in [9] [9] [4]
Press [FromDevice] (Cbl/Sat)
Press the [FromButton] (Enter)
Press the [ToDevice] (Cbl/Sat)
Press the [ToButton] (Surround)
The LED should blink twice.

Then, download to IR and see what it looks like.

I uploaded the file as 4DTV-0869.txt
The 9800 procedure is:
Press and hold Setup
Press Menu - twice
Press Select
Press Menu + four times
Press Select
Press [From Device] (Cbl/Sat)
Press the [From Button] (Enter)
Press the [To Device] (Cbl/Sat)
Press the [To Button] (Surround)
Keying in 9, 9, 4 has no effect.

Looking at your file, I can see that you've programmed keymoves to the REWIND, F.FWD and SURROUND buttons using SAT/0896.

The REWIND and F.FWD keymoves both use 2-bytes of hex, which is correct, but as the hex code on the F.FWD is the mysterious "C7 EC" code that should do nothing, I suspect that both were programmed using IR.exe rather than the remote. Regardless, it does appear that the REWIND button contains the correct code and should duplicte the ENTER button.

The SURROUND button contains a 1-byte keymove, which as we've been saying all along won't work and is not expected to.

Can you please confirm that you have tried programming this keymove using the manual procedure you outlined on the remote itself? And if so, please provide an IR.exe file that demonstrates this.

The 994 procedure that Mark mentioned is for non LCD remotes, it sounds like you have the right procedure for the Producer 8

My bad! I guess that's the price I pay for never having used an LCD remote. I should know better... Embarassed

I'll go sit in the corner for awhile... Shocked

The code on F-Fwd is hex for EFC 236 as given by KM, entered by IR.
THE code on Rewind was entered using IR.
The code on Surround was entered manually on the remote using the
Key Move procedure. None function.
I did a one key upgrade (Surround, OBC 028) using KM. It worked.
I need 67 bytes for a total up grade, 9800 is limited to 50 bytes.
I will up load the files.

I'm surprised that the manual process resulted in the code found on the SURROUND button, this means the key move process in the remote doesn't work properly.

I'm also surprised that the code on the REWIND button doesn't work, this means the remote can't play back 2-byte keymoves.

So, the only solution is for us to cook up a 740 version of the hacked 4DTV protocol. I'll let you know if I get one for you.

Jag,

Here's a protocol that will use one byte GI 4DTV commands on your 8800. Give it a shot:

(you probably don't need these instructions, but just in case) First, change the protocol in KM to GI4DTV Hacked. Ignore the message that the protocol isn't available. Paste the new device and this protocol into
IR.

Let us know how it works.

The following keys are functional but repeat 1 to 3 times with a single key press:
select, menu, up arrow, down arrow, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, rec, ch up.

These do not function: (remote does transmit)
Sur, 1, 2, 3, 9, 0, enter, tv/sat, stop, ch down, sur, enter.

These are probably good:
pip, move.

I will up load the file as: 1869-4DTV-H

Thank you for your effort!
