help with arrows+select on Sony VCR

Post by greenough1 »

Trying to get the arrows and select key to work on OFA-8811.
As per the FAQ:
1) sony slv-760hf, remote is rmt-v184a
2) vhs-vcr
3) 8811
4) yes
5) yes
6) checked and used 2 different device upgrades (sony slv-m91hf vcr vtr3, and sony slv-n700 vcr) with no joy for the arrow and select key.
7) didn't try pronto section

according to the sony site linked at the top of this forum, this should be an 11, 186 controlled device. I tried the codes using the EFC, as the codes on that site are OBC, from the list and the device didn't respond.

Am I forced to learn the commands, then use a keymove to remap them? I'm also running the extender, so what's the proper procedure?

Anyone have an idea why either of the setups didn't completely work? As far as I can tell those are the only buttons that don't work.

thanks,
jeff

If you're running the extender you have to create and assign the buttons within RM or KM (or IR in some cases) since the Set-nnn feature doesn't work. Likewise , the learning function is disabled when running the extender.

The SLV-M91hf file has the functions available but they are not assigned to the navigation keys in the initial layout. All you have to do is assign the up, down, left, right, OK functions to the arrows and select buttons on your remote type instead of the way the creator of the file did.
Just call me Zaphod (or Steve) --- I never should have started using numbers in a screen name but I just can't stop now.

thanks zaphod7501,
when I was testing the set+xxx, I had the extender off (battery out, discharge)....

I did what you said and it magically worked. I'm still learning how KM works. Thanks for teaching me another feature that is really easy to use.

Best,
jeff
