Toshiba HM and HMX Register menu

3. JP1 Remote model: 15-2116
4. JP1 user? Yes
5. Still have original remote? No
6. Checked Yahoo file section? Yes
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)?Yes
I was wondering if anyone that has any of the above models can validate if the 014 code to access the register menu (ADDR) works. I am looking at purchasing this TV and it would be helpful to know if I can access the register menu to turn the grey bars to black when viewing SD material.

Okay, I've validated the 014 code still works for the register menu (ADDR) but unfortunately the register value for changing the grey bars to black is different.

Even though searching for secret EFCs can be dangerous with TV sets, as the dangerous EFC is known for Toshiba sets (ie, EFC 093) I think you can safely try all the other EFCs to see if you can find what you're looking for.
But first, check the list of known EFCs for TV/0156 (which I assume is the setup code that you're using) to see if anything looks familiar:

Robman, Thanks for the response. Unfortunately Toshiba likes to change the address of the register that controls the grey bars. It would be nice if they would just put something like this in the user menu or provide an EFC for it. The problem can be overcome if using a STB but it would be nice to be able to use the TV's better tuner for SD viewing.

I'm not sure if you're missing my point or not, so let me try to re-state what I was getting at.
Given that we know what the danger code is, ie,the one that will reset your TV and make things generally unpleasant, you can avoid that EFC and run through all the others.
Before hand, you can document all the known EFCs so you don't waste time re-testing those. Then you can run through all the remaining EFCs in the 000 thru 255 range to see if one of them is the code you are looking for.
Who knows, maybe Toshiba did provide such a code.

I get you. I suppose it's worth a shot but considering it hasn't been available in the previous lines as an EFC I'm not holding my breath. The register menu is the only place they had the option available. What's really idiotic is supposedly the grey bars were to prevent burn in on CRT's and that's not an issue with DLP's.
