I'm looking for a code to run a lutron dimmer on my 8781 remote which is not a s3c8 chip.I've made this remote run everything in my system except
the dimmer. Thanks to robman and everyone else at jp1.BigD

There is a KM file for the Lutron Dimmer in the Device Codes/Misc section of Yahoo. Since your remote does have a P8/740 mcu, try the following protocol:

Upgrade protocol 0 = 00 E7 (P8/740)

I've tried to create it with PB, but if it doesn't work, you have to ask one of the protocol experts.

I just made some bug fixes to the 740 code in PB 2.00, so try the following instead:

Upgrade Code 0 = 42 55 (CD/0597)

I learned the signals generated by the above and the same signals generated by a 15-1994 (using the PB file) and both were identical, so I'm almost 100% certain this will work.

I'm a little rusty.Am I supposed to copy these directly to IR or to make a new KM?Thanks BigD

You could try copying the two blocks of code that Jason posted into IR.exe to see if it works. Then, if you want to customize the button layout, leave the protocol block there in IR.exe and create a new device upgrade using KM.

Did you remember to assign the setup code (CD/0597) to the desired device button on the [General] tab?

Yes I did that and the icon on the lcd screen says it's transmitting the 3 buttons it's assigned to but still no response.But because of the jp1 forum
I can run a Barco crt projector,Hitachi laserdisc,10 year old Nakamichi
receiver,12 year old Nec TV,Toshiba VCR and Toshiba DVD. If only this remote came with the other chip.Thanks BigD

Yes, we actually do need some help from a protocol expert. It seems that there are different flavors of the Lutron protocol. Here's what was in the file Darryl posted:

The lead in & lead out is different from the lutron pb file -- but lead in = lead out for this protocol. Or is that a mis-learn? The learns look clean.

Also, the commands are different (maybe shorter?)

One of the questions that will come up is: Do the learned commands work? Also at some point it would be nice to know exactly what type of dimmer you have (since it's looking like things are different from one dimmer model to the next).

Seems to me, if memory hasn't totally failed, there was two different Lutron dimmers. I'm guessing about a year or so ago at the old yahoo group. I think Jon worked on both of these. I also seem to recall that these took quite a while to work out as the posters would only check back for replies bi-weekly or so. Someone might want to do a search at yahoo in the message archives to see if both, or just one of them finally got a report back that it worked. Ahhhhh, light bulb lit, one was called a Lutron SPACER, I can't recall what the other was, except that it was a lutron device as well, and not the same as the spacer.

If we assume the same 1 and 0 definitions, then my decode of the commands is:

1S = 88 84 1B
2S = 88 84 22
3S = 88 84 14

These are similar to the original lutron commands which makes sense. Also, there might be a 0 nibble at the end of each command (since it looks like we didn't get the lead out, I can't tell for sure).

Actually the more I look at this, the more I'm not sure I understand the original Lutron protocol. Maybe if we could start there ...
