looking for a JVC code - learning & decoding not working

1. Device: JVC AV-34WP84
2. Type of device: TV (I'm using device code 0053)
3. Remote model: 15-1994
4. JP1 user? YES
5. Still have original remote? YES
6. Checked Yahoo file section? YES
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? YES

I'm trying to get the EFC for the PiP 'Select' button (this button toggles/selects between the two pictures while in the split screen mode). I've tried 'learning' the code then decoding with IR but that isn't working. IR tells me the code is 121 but that is the code for video Input-1. The problem appears to be with the way IR decodes the signal because when I use the learning feature to put the command on a particular key, it works. When I use IR to decode the command and then place what it tells me (121) on another key - it doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Don't just look at the EFC, look at the rest of the decoded info. What protocol and device code does it show? TV/0053 uses the JVC protocol with a device code of 3, if your learned signal shows a different device code, that's the problem.

Yep, that's the problem. The learned signal is showing a device code of 15. Is there a way to assign that to a button using a simple key move or am I going to have to do an upgrade with a device combiner?

Please forgive me if my questions sound stupid. I've done upgrades using JP1, IR, KM, etc. before, but it's been a few years. I now have some new home theater equipment and I'm having to re-learn this stuff.

You should create a mini upgrade for device code 15 with no buttons, then program the keymove to point to that upgrade. There aren't any built in setup codes that use device code 15.

Well, that was easy! I just got around to trying what you suggested and it works perfectly. I thought an upgrade would have to have buttons assigned in KM and then be assigned to a device key in IR. I never knew that an upgrade could be used in this manner.

I do have another (unrelated to my previous problem) question, however. Can the number keys on the 15-1994 be assigned shifted functions?

Yes, but without an extender you need to press the P key twice each time you use a shifted digit.

With an extender a shifted digit is like an ordinary shifted key and requires only one press of the P key.

I wasn't having any luck (so I thought) putting shifted functions on the number keys but I was only pressing the P key once. I thought I was either making a mistake somewhere or that it wasn't possible to put shifted functions on the num keys at all. 2 presses of the P key will be ok with me as the functions I want to put there will be used very rarely anyway. I'll try it again when I get home from work today.
