one last question

OK .. I just received my URC-6131M which I purchased from Rob. The reason I purchased this remote is I have 2 DirecTivos running in the same room and out of the box the URC-6131 controls both units (code 0).

Ive got ir.exe all set up and it can download from my remote just fine.

Ive been reading this forum for the last few HOURS and I must say while I know more than I did before my confusion level grows after each post.

My Goal :
Set up PVR key to Control my RCA DirecTivo (Peanut/Tivo set for Code 3)
Set up CBL/SAT key tp Control my Huges DirecTivo (Peanut/Tivo set for Code 9)

Questions:
Do I need to install the Extender? Some say yes some say no. If I say no now am I setting myself up to have to redo everything later?

As far as getting my 2 Tivo units set for the correct Unit code do I need to load the upgrade into the spreadsheet and change something there? When I load the upgrade into the spreadsheet it tells me to enter the unit code in the cell above B7 but that cell is protected ? Help??

Thanks for the help and Im sorry if these are really simple questions I desperately tried to find the answers on my own.!

I was confused by your question, so I downloaded the Direct Tivo upgrades to take a look... I'm guessing that the comments are out-of-date (probably applies to an older version of KM) and that you want to change the unit code in cell C11 (you know, the one that says "Unit Code" next to it).

You'll also want to change the Remote Type to URC-6131 and fix the button assignments to make sense (the 6131 has more PVR keys than the 15-2117). After fixing the upgrade for your purpose, save the text file, change the Unit Code and also the Device Type (like the example did: notice upgrade 1 = SAT, upgrade 2 = PVR) and then save it again as your second device's upgrade file. I guess instead of changing the Device Type, you could also change the Setup Code. It probably doesn't matter which, but the 2 upgrades must be made distinct somehow. If you have more than 2 Direct Tivo's you'll probably need to start changing the Setup Code, as there are only a few device types that include the right keys.

I installed the extender on my 6131 because I wanted macros on the device keys (and I also wanted to use the old key move format). I'd recommend waiting to install it -- get your basic functionality working first and then worry about macros on the device keys, etc. later. Your original setup effort/time will NOT be wasted by installing the extender later.

I hope that helps...

Thank You!

Got it going and I must say that this kicks ass. Ive got my 2 Tivos working on my remote, my Panasonic 61 inch TV, Panasonic DVD and JVC VCR. Only outstanding problem is my receiver Pioneer 814K, I used the Pioneer master list and the volume buttons work fine but when I remap the 1 key (for example) to Change the input to TV/SAT it doesnt seem to take that and uses the same map as default. I tried copying the upgrade several times and get the same thing.

Accomplished my goal by sidestepping the problem, I created macros that sequence through the receiver inputs. Works ok for now.

One last problem.. My URC-6131, when I lock the volume for all devices (through the remote Set 993 Audio it works for all devices but PVR. I made sure that the PVR wasnt set to ignore but that doesnt seem to be the case, any ideas?

If you're not using an extender the digit keys require a double press of the "set" key. With a single press the remote thinks you are getting ready to send a 3 digit advanced core (like "set" 1 - 2- 3). I think it might work normally within a macro because you select the key as "add shifted" rather than selecting the "set" key (which you can do if you want to send an EFC - in case you need a delay for a slow starting TV command for instance)

Did you use a device mode other than PVR for the PVR, or did you assign it to a device key other than the PVR key?

If you change the device mode of a device button (like if you assign a "VCR" code to the CBL button) it will break the VPT. The solution is to create your upgrades using the correct mode for the device button you intend to program them to.

If you used the same device mode for both upgrades, that's the reason the VPT broke. Go back to KM and change the device mode from PVR to either TV or SAT (whichever one you really used) then re-load it.
