I'm having problems getting IR to speak with this remote. I've tried
IR5.15 and IR6.0RC3.
The remote looks like a UEI remote and smells like a UEI remote.
It has a 6-pin connected labelled JP1 (not JP1.1) and it is "Designed
with UEI technology"
The model # is URC-4ABXXXB02
The response I get from IR when downloading is:
"Did not receive a response (acknowledgement) from the remote after sending device address. (ErrNo=7, Param=160)"
"Details: No response from the Remote. Make sure your Interface is plugged into JP1 properly."
I tried some searches, but I don't think my search skills are functioning
well tonight. I saw some reference to Atlas remote that had a similar
model # and I wasn't sure the status of that.
If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
IR won't speak to Scientific Atlanta remote URC-4ABXXXB02

It sounds like this is one of the "flash" remotes. If you want to confirm that, open it up and see if you can find the EEPROM, if it's not there chances are it's a flash remote. If the MCU chip is exposed (ie, not hidden under a glob) seei fyou can read of whatever's written on it and post it.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try asking my friend if he'll let me open up the
remote. As I recall it can be a PITA to open these things sliding the
credit card along the edges if the plastic is somewhat rigid.
If it was a "Flash" remote I'm guessing that means it is programmed in
a different way than the EEPROM remotes and that limitation would
prevent IR from working with this remote?

For advice on opening the remote, go here...
http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/disassemble/
If it is a flash remote, it's not JP1-able at this time. If the chip is an SST chip, it may never be JP1-able, but if it's a Motorola chip there's a good chance that it will be JP1-able some day as all OFA remotes are going to be using this chip soon.
