Dish 921 + URC 7800

I just got a Dish 921 this afternoon and I have been trying to program my 7800 with little success. It's been about 2-3 years since I first built a JP1 i/f and programmed my 7800 and since it has been working fine, I'd forgotten how to do much of it and had to do some re-learning.

I downloaded some of the 921 device files and they seem to require protoccl modification. Are these device files remote specific? The ones I've seen seem to be for the 15-1994 and the 9910. I assumed I could just select the 7800 once I'd loaded into KM. Is that not the case?

Appreciate any assistance. If the 7800 does not work with the 921 is there a list of remotes which will?

Thanks. Cheers!

Changing the selected remote (in KM or RM) is exactly what you should do. Read this doc for more info...

I followed those instructions as is -- but it still did not work. After uploading, when I select cable and press a button (any button) I only get a faint blink.

I also tried learning and the remote blinked 2x to confirm that the learning process was sucessful -- however, when I press the button I only got a faint blink.

What's going on here? Thanks.

The "faint blink" is a good clue. Did you have to load a new protocol with this upgrade? Do you still have learned signals stored under the same device button as the upgrade?

The URC-7800 (and 15-1994) have a bug which prevents learned signals from working under a device button when that same device button is programmed with a setup code that uses an upgraded protocol.

Besides, how can you test whether the upgrade works if you still have the learned signals present.

If what I just described is not the problem, please post your KM and IR files in the Diagnosis Area and post a working link to them for one of us to take a look.

Thanks. Yes, I was doing that. I will now do the following:

Clear out the aux device and learn a couple of keys on it. I will then post results.

I set AUX with a regular device code (CD). And then I learned several functions. They all work. Is this my best bet -- i.e. to learn each button. If I uploaded my current file (don't know how to do that yet -- is that on the yahoo group), will an expert be able to decipher it and help with an easier method?

Thanks,

Delete your learned signals, then try this upgrade...

Upgrade Code 0 = 3E EF (PVR/1775) DishPVR 921 (KM v8.31)
E2 00 BE EE 7E F9 00 00 80 00 00 44 10 14 18 20
24 28 30 34 38 68 78 08 C5 0D C9 84 80 7C 6C 5C
2C 40 00 48 E9 F5 ED 50 68 78 70 60
End

Upgrade Protocol 0 = 01 E2 (S3C8) Dish Network Combo (KM v8.31)
2B 5C 51 8B 16 B6 59 05 06 00 C5 03 32 00 C5 05
73 0B F2 00 C5 0B F2 05 02 43 8C 18 08 56 C1 03
87 21 04 29 04 8D 01 33
End

I cut and paste your codes directly to IR (first deleted all learned codes) and uploaded, but it did not work. Should I have first paste into KM and then selected 7800 to cnvert it to the 7800?

Thx.

one more thing -- with the upgrade u suggested and a few others I found, even the VPT fn does not work (even though I have it turned on). I don't know if this is a clue.

I've posted my learned IR to the yahoo forum (7800 with 921 learned).

Thanks,

Post a working link to your IR file and I'll take a look. (Read "Posting links to the Yahoo Files area" to see HOW to post links).

Your link works but there's no upgrade in it. Did you post the wrong file or do you not know how to add upgrades?

Let's try eliminating another step in the process, try the following file that I have loaded into the Diagnosis Area:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... 0-921-1.IR

I saved your file and tried opening it with IR and I got the following message:

"No data found in signature. This indicates interface is not working properly (or you have manually cleared the signature bytes in which case it is normal). Do you want to cancel the operation"

I then selected "No" (i.e. continued) -- then selected the 7800 rdf from the list shown -- then got the following message:

"Bad checksum at $0000. Expected $00 $FF but found $FF $FF." then, "List index out of bounds"

That sounds like you may be using an old version of IR, I used version 6.00 RC3 to create that file.
