1. Device: (ie, brand and model number) Fortec Star FS-5900
2. Type of device: (eg, DVD player, audio receiver, etc) Satellite Receiver
3. Remote model: (eg, URC-6131, 15-1994, etc) URC-8811
4. JP1 user? (yes/no) Yes
5. Still have original remote? (yes/no) Yes
6. Checked Yahoo file section? (yes/no) Yes
7. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? (yes/no) Yes

I tried all 3 Fortec Star device codes in the Yahoo jp1 file section but none
of them worked. There were no device codes in the Pronto file section for the Fortec
receiver at all. I can program the codes from my original remote but so far only
to the macro buttons. How do I program all the functions needed using the
"head to head" procedure? I'm guessing this the only option if the device codes
aren't available for my model yet since this is a brand new receiver.
Does anyone else have this model? I am just starting out with this and could use any help I can get.
Thanks in advance.

(These were the device codes I tried in the Yahoo file section.)
None of them are working for the Fortec Star FS-5900

Fortec_Star_786v3.txt
Keymap for Fortec Star DVB-786v3, which is a Digital FTA Satellite Receiver
used for free International channels (submitted by jgazala) 5 KB gazjod 05/03/2003

Fortec_Star_lifetimebl.txt
File for Fortec Star Lifetime (and Ultra?) MPEG/DVB receiver. 5 KB wejones2000 05/25/2004

Fortecstar_Lifetime_and_Ultra.txt
This is a new file that contains ALL of the buttons from the Lifetime remote.
It replaces Fortec_Star_lifetimebl.txt

Thanks.

First, if you can learn the OEM remote keys, then you can build a new upgrade device code using KM or RM. Learn as many keys as you can, then look at the learned values in IR. This will tell you the protocol, EFCs, etc.

Once you've built the upgrade you can paste it into IR as a new device and then just use the device. (You should also post it to the files section so others can use it too).

Do ANY of the buttons in the current code work? If so, then it may just be a matter of doing keymoves to add the functions that are missing.

Lastly, you should know that you can usually learn to ANY key, not just the macro keys. Substitute the key you want to learn to instead of the macro key in the instructions. This is pretty inefficient, though, so its better to only do this for the purpose of building an upgrade, which will use much less space.
