Noobie here so please excuse my ignorance related to remotes.
I have a OFA 6012. I have the following home theater setup:
TV
DVD
VCR
A/V receiver
Sat DN 510
Sat DN 301
I would like to be able to run my 2 Echostar satellite receivers from one remote but in order to operate each independently I need to set them different addresses.
Is it possible to?
1) Program the 301 to the Cable key
2) Set the addresses with the 6012 that I have. It does not have a # key
If not possible I would like to get a new remote for under $100 that would do what I need. This could be a Cinema 7, a Kameleon or a 6131 or a MX-500. I like the Kameleons as only keys needed for the device are displayed which would cut down on the wife's complaints that the system is too complicated but am hesitant based on all the luke warm reviews that I have read. I would be nice if the remote was DVR capable.
Please feel free to comment. _________________ Autoeng |

Universal remotes only come with the standard unit codes for multi-unit devices, like your SAT box, so while the URC6012 can absolutely work both SAT boxes, you won't be able to control them independantly.
To do this, you would need to add new codes, created with the right unit codes, using JP1.
The URC-6012 is a JP1-capable remote, but you would need to modify it for JP1 use. The modification is to solder in an EEPROM chip, a 6-pin connector and a JMP2 wire.
There are several remotes on the market that are JP1 ready "out of the box", such as the URC-8811, URC-8910, etc. The URC-7800 "Cinema 7" needs a minor modification to be JP1 ready (it's just needs the 6-pin soldered in), and the URC-9960 Kameleon either needs the 6-pin soldered in, or you need to get a seperate pogo-pin adapter.
The most popular remote for DVR users is the URC-6131 PVR remote. Just like the URC-6012, this one also needs the EEPROM and 6-pin soldered in for it to be JP1-capable.
The good news is that I have modified remotes for sale, and I have modified versions of the URC-6131 ($23), URC-7800 ($25) and URC-9960 ($65) all available. I also have the URC-8811 and URC-8910 (both $19) available too. _________________ Rob

I just purchased a OVA 6131 modified that is working great and can control my Echostar 301 and 510 sat receivers individually (thanks Rob!). I had to change the address of the 510 to 2 but other than that, a painless setup.
I have a 6012 that I would like to keep around but am having problems getting it to work. I changed the CBL key to a second SAT key but I can't get both sat's to program. I can get the 301 programmed to either the SAT or CBL key with code 0775 but when I try to put in the 510 with 1005 or 1170 I get an error flash from the remote light and can't control it.
Any ideas. Should I set the 301 to address 2 and then the 510 to 1 and try that or am I out of luck? Out of curiosity I set the 510 to address 3 but still no luck. _________________ Autoeng |

The 6012 lacks the ability to control your sat dishes if they are set to addresses other than the default address, this is why you purchased the 6131 after all. If you want to give the 6012 the ability to control them both you will need to solder in an EEPROM chip, 6-pin connector and JMP2 wire. There's a detailed doc describing the process in the Hardware folder. _________________ Rob

Bummer. OFA responded to my tech question that it could.
Well, as we use the 510 the majority of the time it sounds like I need to set it's address back to 1.
Thanks Rob. _________________ Autoeng |
