Diff. between URC-9910 / 9911

Hi, I'm new to the wonderful world of universal remotes and the even more wonderful world of JP1.
I'm in Canada, and up here they sell the URC-9911.
I can order a URC-9910 from the US on the web for much cheaper (especially with the exchange rate these days!).
On ofausa.com, it says that the 9911 is "for operation of Canadian device models". I assume that means that it comes programmed with some codes for devices that are only available in Canada.
But does it really make a difference whether I get the 9910 or 9911 if I'm going to program it with JP1 anyway?
I'd buy a 9910+JP1 cable package from bluedo.com. Feel free to recommend other sites where I may buy such a package.
Also, concerning the IR signal extension cord that comes with these remotes...
I want to place the IR/RF command center so that it controls my tv, digital cable box, receiver and DVD in one room, yet I would also like to control my micro stereo system in the next room.
Of course the manual states that the cord is only 4 feet long which would make that impossible. Has anyone tried extending it? I'd need a good 20 feet. It looks like a standard 1/8" headphone type of jack so I guess a headphone extension could be used?
Last thing, is there any way to program the remote with a timer? My girlfriend has this thing for waking up to "Eye of the Tiger"
