Optoma RD 50 IR Codes

Post by dumlerc »

Hi! I'm trying to use KM or RM to upload the codes for my Optoma RD50 HDTV to my URC-6131.

The manual contains a useful page of IR codes, but I'm not certain how to fill in all of the information in RM (for example).

The table looks like:
Custom IR Code : 02F5H

Key______Single Key Function__ Single Key Code
Power..........Power ON/OFF............01FEH
Up...............OSD item up..............40BFH

From reading the forums & FAQ, it seem like the OBC for the Power on is 1; for the "Up" key it is 128 (640 - 512).

However, I don't know:

1. Is this right?
2. If it is right, what do I enter in the following RM fields:
Setup Code
Device number
Subdevice
Parm

Many thanks! All the best - Chris

According to page 7 of this document there is a procedure where you can cause the OEM remote to generate the discrete commands. Why not lean those and let IR decode the commands for you?

If the document that you are referring to is online please post a link.

If I had to guess:
Custom IR Code : 02F5H
is NEC1:2.245 (That is NEC1 Protocol, Device 1=2, Device 2=245)
Power ON/OFF............01FEH
is OBC=1
Up...............OSD item up..............40BFH
is OBC=64

These are OBC's not EFC's

Jon, a 6131 can't learn.

Chris, the rest of what Jon guessed is the same as I would have guessed and should be easy to test. But the original document might contain another clue that could make us revise that guess.

More code information

Post by dumlerc »

Thanks for help jon & john!

Optoma usefully provided a manual of hex codes that went along with the manual showing discrete IR codes.

However, it doesn't appear that this is enough information to program RM or KM (unless I'm missing something!).

I'd like to avoid having to buy another IR remote, especially since the 6131 goes very nicely with my SciAtl PVR cable box (there are many of the same keys).

All the best - Chris

That provides all the OBC information needed for a very complete upgrade, but still leaves us guessing at the protocol. But NEC1 is a good guess and we can make other guesses based on the results of trying NEC1.

Buying an 8810 wouldn't stop you from using the 6131. The JP1 data from learning via an 8810 can be used to program the 6131. But you probably don't need to spend that extra, since there aren't many protocols that make sense with the way that IR data is documented and it isn't hard to try each of them.

Based on the info posted I have created the following KM file: Optoma_RD50_HDTV.txt

To make things easier, here is an upgrade formatted for the URC-6131 that you can quickly test, just copy this code into the Devices panel of IR, then assign VCR/2000 to any of the device buttons.

Upgrade Code 0 = 27 D0 (VCR/2000) Optoma RD50 HDTV (KM v8.31)
5A 0E 70 1C FE FE F9 20 BF 50 DF 5F 5D BF 3F 7F
1F DE 07 FD DD 7D 3D 87 BD C7 06 9F 6F 4F EF F7
9D 5E CF 47 2F 0F
End

If the upgrade works, you can customize the button layout using the KM file to better suit your needs. I didn't assign any of the discrete codes to real buttons in this upgrade.

This worked great! I've made some minor changes to Rob's .txt file, and I'll be uploading a nice set of .txt files for both the Optoma and SciAtl 8000 soon!
