I was about to tell you that I could add the learned signal when I noticed that... there is NO "add signal" in the "learned signals" tab of IR. Maybe it would be a good feature for you top IR gurus.
OK so here is the dump. You'll find in it two upgrade devices I've made. Just in case you'll need them they are in this and this files. |

OK, I re-decoded the signal by hand and first off, I discovered that the 2nd OBC is actually 173, not 210. But I also spotted the checksum issue that John mentioned.
Normally, these signals come in 4 parts:
a device code
the complement of that device code
a command code
the complement of that command code
In this case, they XOR'd the LSB of the command code complement, so whereas the binary would normally be...
11000101 00111010 10011001 01100110
11110101 00001010 10110101 01001010
in this case, the binary is...
11000101 00111010 10011001 01100110
11110101 00001010 10110101 01001011
(notice that the last bit of the 2nd line is different)
If I get a chance, I may write a new protocol that will handle this, just so we can present an upgrade for others that need it, rather than just creating a one time learned signal for you.
As for the lack of an ADD or EDIT button for learned signals, I've been asking for that for years! _________________ Rob

OK, I just did this at work, so it's totally untested, but if you use the following protocol, you should be able to generate both the normal signals and the region free signal.
Create the upgrade as per normal using KM and enter a 1 or a 3 in the byte2 column depending on whether you want to use dev1/cmd1 or dev1/cmd2 for the 1st part of the signal.
For the region free command, you want to use 163/153 for the first part and 175/173 for the second part. The difference here is when you go to enter a 1 or a 3 in the byte2 column, add 4 to it and enter a 5 or a 7 instead.
If you don't have Excel and need to do this using RM, enter the codes as per normal, then once you've copied them over to IR, edit the raw data for the region free button and change the second byte from 01 (or 03) to 05 (or 07).
Here's the protocol code:
Upgrade protocol 0 = 00 7E (S3C8+) Region Free Pioneer DVD (PB v3.10)
40 84 42 8B 15 CA 44 08 08 01 09 00 FA 01 09 03
16 C3 3C 10 A9 08 43 08 FF 08 E4 FF 09 76 08 02
6B 03 E4 FE 09 76 08 02 EB 03 E4 04 06 76 08 01
EB 05 46 29 01 8B 18 B0 01 68 07 E4 06 07 F6 FF
4F E6 01 02 69 07 F6 FF 4F F6 01 0A 7B E9 AF E4
03 04 E4 07 08 60 04 B4 09 08 8D 01 46
End
And here's a sample upgrade where the region free command is programmed to the POWER button:
Upgrade Code 0 = 37 D0 (DVD/2000) keymap-master Device Upgrade (KM v8.31)
7E 00 11 3A 66 0A FA 4A 05
End
Let me know how you make out. _________________ Rob

Still no luck.
I've uploaded a dump of the memory just for you to be sure that I did nothing wrong. The key I used was DVD SHIFT-MUTE.
Just one more thing. I'm spanish speaker with a limited knowledge of english (maybe you noticed this yet) so I don't know if this will sound a bit "strong", this is not my intention: take this easy, I'm not in a hurry and I have the feeling that you're giving me too much time with all this thing.
Of course... thanks a lot for it. |

Try loading this upgrade and protocol, the "region free" command is assigned to the POWER button.
Upgrade Code 0 = 37 D0 (DVD/2000)
FF 00 11 3A C5 66 99 0A F5 4A
End
Upgrade protocol 0 = 00 FF (S3C8+) Region Free Pioneer DVD
40 84 61 8B 12 CF 44 00 08 01 09 00 FA 01 09 03
16 C3 3C 10 A9 08 43 E6 11 04 E4 09 0A B6 0A FE
B0 10 F6 01 46 E6 10 04 F6 01 46 F6 01 0A 7B F0
AF

I can't believe it...
...IT WORKS!!!
Great great great great great great great job Rob!!!
You turn on the machine, then press the button and the DVD turns off. When you turn it on again it's zone free.
So far I've tested that I can read zone 1 and zone 2 disks, now I'll start testing thoroughly to see if there are any caveats. In a few days I'll let you know the final results.
Thanks a lot!!!
As you were doing the nice job I've been doing some homework and I've prepared this improved DVD/0571 upgrade merging the keys I've found in several upgrades like this or this plus some new keys I've found. As usual you'll end up with much more keys than you'll find in the original remotes or you'll ever be able to place in an ofa remote.
Thanks again for your time!!!
P.D.: Good luck with the "add learned signal" button |

Glad to hear it. I'll post a KM file for it later. I deliberately wrote this protocol in such a way that you can plug in other OBCs if you want to see if there are any other secret commands with the funny checksum that do anything else. _________________ Rob

Hi,
the question to Mr. TheRobman,
is this upgrade/protocol compatible with URC-8040 (from the beginning of that topic you say about URC-8060 remote)
Thanks in advance,
Il |

Has there been a JP1.2 version of this yet? Or better yet, what about a wave file version for either the URC 8910 or URC 10820? Thanks. |

I've created a wave file for the upgrade for URC-8910 here. After loading the upgrade, you need to set the VCR or DVD setup code to VCR/2000, then press the POWER button to send the signal. URC-10820 is not sound file upgradeable so there's no point in make the sound file for it.
I've made a JP1.2 version of the upgrade code and protocol above:
Upgrade Code 0 = 27 D0 (VCR/2000) Pioneer Region Free DVD (RM v1.85)
FF 00 11 3A C5 66 99 0A F5 4A
End
Upgrade protocol 0 = 00 FF (HCS08) Manual Settings (RM v1.85)
20 15 21 43 61 CF 44 00 08 01 09 01 0E 01 09 03
2A C3 3C 10 9A 08 43 6E 04 AA 4E 66 67 B6 67 A8
FE B7 67 3F A9 CD FF 5F 6E 04 A9 CD FF 5F CD FF
92 25 F0 81
End
I tested it quickly tested it and it seems to be sending the same signal as the original code for S3C8+ based remotes. As I mentioned in your other post, are you sure this would work for Region 1 player? |
