I've killed my 2117 - is there a fix?

I set up my remote with Extender 3 - didn't quite work as I wanted.

I attempted to download again and the remote seems locked.

I attempted to purge the memory.

When I attempt to download now I get the error message:
"Operation canceled. No data found in signature."

The only button which seems to be working is the backlight button.

Help! I can't upload from or download to the remote and it clearly doesn't work at present.

Is there a fix?

Yes there is.

1) Remove the batteries and use a wire or something to touch the battery terminals together.
2) Re-install the batteries and DO NOT re-activate the extender
3) Press and hold SETUP (ie, green P) until the screen changes
4) Press RECORD, then follow the prompts to do an MFR RESET

Yes, that fixed the problem.

Now I just need to figure out what I did wrong the first time. It was probably something stupid, but I didn't expect to turn the remote into a boat anchor.
