Extender needed for device key LKP on 9910?

Hello -

I'm a JP1 newbie and have read the beginner docs. Here's what I'd like to do:

- SKP of Home theater device button switches the remote to HT mode
- LKP of Home theater device button activates macro to turn on (discretely) TV/RCVR/DVD, set TV and RCVR to the appropriate input, and finally set remote to HT mode.

The first one is pretty straightforward. For the second, do I need to use the Extender, or can I just use IR and special protocols? I understand that a shift-device key macro can be done without an extender, but I'd prefer to use a LKP instead.

Thanks,
I-Liang

I am definately no expert, but my understanding is that you need extender to handle LKP/DKP protocols.

Awhile ago I uploaded a standalone special protocol for the 8910/9910 in the file/special protocol section of jp1 at Yahoo.

Thanks Nils. I see that the readme file describes what I need to do.

Now I have a different question that's slightly related. In the macro on the device key LKP, I need to include a LKP. Specifically, one of the components requires me to press-and-hold the power key to turn on/off; I'd like to have to macro turn on this component, then switch the 9910 into DVD mode. Is this possible?

Thanks,
I-Liang

Yup, basically the definitions for the short and long side are just macros and you can put any command you want in it. As the last command put shift-DVD so you don't accidental run the macro again.
