URC-9960 version differences

Just out of general intrest, a couple on questions
1.
What differences does the variety on URC-9960 versions have ?
There is the URC-9960 B00, the URC-9960 B01 and i myself have an URC-9960 BJ3
It seems i have a 2k eeprom, sence it can only learn via IR about 20-25 keys.
2.
Can i change the eeprom on my URC-9960 to 4k, and if i can, what benefits do i get ? More learn memory, etc. ?

There are only 2 versions of the 9960 but unlike other OFA remotes they are not clearly labelled as B00 or B01, in this case these are just tags that we came up with. The B00 version (which you have) is the one that most people have. This version comes with a 2k EEPROM chip and is fully supported by the JP1 tools. The B01 version comes with a 4k chip and is not supported in any way by any of the JP1 tools. This is because the memory format changed and the necessary programming changes haven't been made on our end.
The B00 remote should support larger chips, so you could use a 4k or 8k replacement chip if you like, however the mod isn't the easiest of mods. First you would need to open up the remote and remove the black framework that surrounds the PCB. Then you would have to carefully remove the existing EEPROM chip and replace it with the larger one. Removing surface mount chips isn't easy, I tried doing this very mod to a 9960 recently and I managed to kill the remote. So proceed with caution.

Hi,
I have one K8 B01 version. And I cannot use the JP1 for uploading code.
But its IR learnt memory size is not enough for me now. Can I upgrade 4k memory size to 8k?
And I want to know more about the memory upgrade:
1. Do I need to make any partition on the EEPOM?
2. Can I identify how size for marco function, and IR learnt?
3. The upgrade procedure will make to delete the original manufactory code?
4. Is the EEPOM only for marco and IR Learnt, or also for original manufactory code?

Erk !
I only spotted this thread after my new 9960 B01 arrived.
Is it still the case that JP1 just flat doesn't work with this version of the remote ?
Is that always going to be the case or is it just a case of waiting for a new software release ?

That's good news
I'm asking because I'm wondering whether it's worth installing the 6-pin header on my new remote. If there's a likelihood of getting software support in the (near) future, then I'll get started. Otherwise, I guess it goes into a cupboard for a while...

The current release of IR 6.x supports the new EEPROM format of B01.

Wow, a 5 year old thread. To tell you the truth, I honestly don't know. I don't recall what I based that statement on, and I don't think anyone ever tried replacing the EEPROM on their B00 remote.
