JP1 Remotes

Hi,

I'm having problems with the Philips-TiVo.txt upgrade code. Most of the PVR buttons on my 6131 work, but several (thumbs up, thumbs down, replay and ->|) don't do anything. When I'm in PVR mode and press those buttons, the LED on the remote doesn't light. I learned the codes for those buttons to my 2104 and checked them against the Philips-TiVo.txt functions. The buttons are defined in Philips-TiVo.txt. Am I missing something on the setup of the remote? Or do I have to use Key Moves to set up those buttons for the 6131?

Are they assigned to buttons which are part of the default key map? Or to buttons which need key moves? KM will NOT create key moves for the non-extended 6131 remote.

How can I tell if the button's are part of the default key map? I can see a key move section disappear from the upgrade code code section when I switch to the 6131 in KM, but the buttons still show up under the function tab in the KM spread sheet.

Buttons that are preceeded by a @ on the Buttons sheet are NOT in the keymap.

Unless you are changing the unit code, the 6131 doesn't need a device upgrade for TiVo support.

The Philips-TiVo.txt was created for a 15-1994. If you switch to the 6131, you have to reassign the buttons on the buttons sheet. IIRC, this is valid for the thumb up and down button and for the TiVo button.

I'll check the Buttons sheet for @'s when I get home.

I have two TiVos. (That's what got me interested in JP1. I've been using 1 1994, 1 2104 and a pair of modded 1993's. I've also got a 1995 and a modded 2103 gathering dust.)

I had read that post, but it didn't answer why I could see the function in KM. Now I know to look for the @ on the Buttons Sheet.

Thank you for the reply. I'll take a look at KM and the Buttons sheet to see if I can reassign the buttons. If not I'll probably manually do Key Moves.

2 TiVos with a 6131? You might want to try tivo-2units-6131.txt, which has the following description:

URC-6131 file with upgrades for 2 Tivos with seperate unit codes

this is a file for loading into IR, not into KM!

None of the keys had @'s. But the TiVo specific buttons weren't assigned any functions. The TiVo specific functions were assigned to other buttons (pip, enter, etc.). I cleared those buttons, reassigned the functions to the correct buttons and that did the trick.

On the 6131, that's correct. KM doesn't create key moves for the un-extended 6131 because they use the "new" style.

Correct again, as that file was created for a 1994 remote.

Whenever you use an existing upgrade file, you always need to make sure your model Remote is selected. Then, you should check the layout sheet to see which Device Mode yields the most buttons, and select that on the Setup sheet. Finally, you need to setup the button assignments to your liking on the Buttons sheet.

I've always used Key Moves to patch any issues I had with the upgrade files. But the 6131 is forcing me to learn new things because I can't do Key Moves in IR.

It's forcing you into better habits, which is a good thing.

There's always the 6131 extender which gives you the capability to do traditional Key Moves.

I've yet to find a compelling reason to use the extenders. Until there's a feature that I can't handle with KM and key moves, I'll probably hold off on using the extenders.
