Putting rdf file on remote

Post by leadbelt »

Okay, this is complicated stuff.
I saved my "Original Settings" on my RS 15-2116 remote using ir.exe as "Original.rdf" before messing with it. Now my remote will not "Learn" any commands using another remote. I'd like to restore my saved "Original.rdf" file back to the 2116 remote...BUT HOW? The JP1 for
Beginners instructions doesn't seem to address this and a search turns up nothing. The program ir.exe saved the original settings as an .rdf file but
now seems to want nothing to do with it. How can I restore the .rdf file I saved?

You shouldn't have called the file *.rdf - the rdf extension is used for the files that tell IR the format that data is stored in for each remote. You should re-name the file 'Original.IR' then try re-opening it using IR.exe

When I change .rdf to a .ir file and try to open it says "NO data found in signature." I got the 15-2116-virgin.txt from the files section but
ir.exe won't use it either. Changing it to .ir doesn't help.

What I don't understand is why 4.02 ir.exe saved it as a .rdf file. I notice now ir.exe 5.06 will only Upload from remote as an .ir file. Confused to say the least!

Is there any way to restore my 2116 back to original?

I found an original 2116 .ir file with Pansat 2300 added to it and uploaded
it to the remote. It works for the TV and Pansat fine. But still, it seems
my remote has lost the ability to transfer options from another remote.
When I put remote to remote to transfer settings it reports "Success" but
just never works. I don't know why it lost that feature after jtaging it.

I'm not sure what you mean here, I've loaded plenty of .txt files into IR by chaging the filetype drop down list in the Open Dialog to .txt

I guess it just let you change the extension, but was saving the same content as a .txt file in the newer IR.EXE. The .IR files aren't the same as .txt files, they contain section headings and additional notes, renaming your original.rdf to original.txt and loading into IR as above may help. If not you could try uploading it to the diagnosis area and seeing if anyone can work out why you are getting problems.
But still, it seems my remote has lost the ability to transfer options from another remote
I guess this means learn signals from another remote. It's extremely difficult (if not impossible) to do any real damage using JP1 since all you are doign is upgrading the contents of the eeprom and it can be changed back at any time. Download the current configuration from your remote into IR.EXE save the .IR file and upload it to the diagnosis area, read the sticky on posting links to Yahoo and post a link here. Someone can then have a look and see if they can find any problems.

I said to use *.IR as the extenstion, not *.ir as IR.exe doesn't hand;e lower case extenstions very well.

To restore your 15-2116 back to the factory settings, bring up the onscreen menu then press RECORD, then follow the prompts.

Hmmm...I was just doing a rightclick on the .txt file and re-naming it an .IR file. Will look for a "filetype drop down list in the Open Dialog" in ir.exe next time. Thanks for the info.

Seems it was just information overload yesterday. Today is a new day,
and I see I had the button pressing method REVERSED on the remotes
for "Learning." I just needed to re-read the Remote Instructions.

All is much better this morning. Again, thanks guys!
