I'm a bit confused on the processes involved with getting my One for all URC 4021 Universal working with my Apex AD-2600 DVD player.

I am hoping someone can guide me throught the the setup process to get this combo to work

Help needed from initial setup throught end.

Thanks for any help

I have the URC 4041, not the 4021

There are 9 setup codes listed in the URC-4021 manual for Apex DVD players, and I can guarantee you that the following 7 of them are not the right code for the AD-2600:

0672, 0717, 0755, 0794, 0796, 0797, 1100.

I don't know anything about the following two codes, so you should try them:

1056, 1061

If neither of these codes work, there is a long winded way you could get the player to work. There is a setup code that has the same type of signals as the AD-2600 called DVD/0711, therefore using this code you can re-program the buttons with the right advanced codes, from the list below.

For example, once you've programmed DVD/0711 to the DVD device button, here's how you would re-program the PLAY button...

1) Tap DVD
2) Hold SET, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Tap SET
5) Type 123 (from the list below)
6) Tap PLAY, 2 flashes

Here are the advanced codes:

169 - num 0
185 - num 1
057 - num 2
056 - num 3
183 - num 4
055 - num 5
054 - num 6
187 - num 7
059 - num 8
058 - num 9
105 - VOL UP
103 - VOL DOWN
040 - MUTE
184 - STANDBY
249 - OPEN/CLOSE
245 - SUBTITLE
036 - AUDIO
168 - ANGLE
120 - SHUFFLE
117 - A-B
116 - REPEAT
121 - P/N
106 - ZOOM
167 - SLOW
102 - STEP
233 - RESUME
104 - DISPLAY
166 - MENU
039 - TITLE
244 - AFF
182 - KODAK T.E.
043 - I/P
101 - UP ARROW
119 - DOWN ARROW
122 - RIGHT ARROW
118 - LEFT ARROW
123 - ENTER/PLAY
042 - SKIP FWD
171 - SKIP REV
164 - FWD
186 - REV
235 - PAUSE
180 - STOP
038 - SETUP
181 - PROGRAM
052 - GOTO
041 - +10
037 - CLEAR

Thanks for the Help ROBMAN!!

So If I understand you correctly to program my dvd........

1) Tap DVD device button on 4021
2) Hold SET, 2 flashes
3) type 0711 to the DVD device button
4) Tap SET

At this point I would (**to setup Play button**)

1) Tap DVD
2) Hold SET, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Tap SET
5) Type 123 (from the list below)
6) Tap PLAY, 2 flashes

and use the rest of the advanced codes in the same way to program all the functions I want?

Does it matter what order I do it. (i.e Power button (Standby?)) then so on and so on?

Should I have the DVD player on ( I asume it would be on), with media playing etc?

I don't think that extra tap of SET is needed.

Correct.

I don't know how many fit before you run out of KeyMove memory, so you might want to do more important ones first. But among those that fit, it doesn't matter which sequence they were programmed in.

If they don't all fit and there are some functions you use rarely, you might want to skip programming keys for such functions but write their EFC numbers on the back of the remote. You can send any of the signals by tapping SET and then keying in the 3 digit EFC number.

The DVD player isn't really needed at all for programming the remote, but in case Rob's information is wrong (or you make keying errors), you might want to test each function after you program it. (Just press the key again after the 2 blinks of step 6 and it will transmit its signal).

Just remember, before you start doing all that work with the DVD/0711 setup code, you should test those other 2 setup codes that I mentioned, just in case either of them is the right code.

Also you can test an advanced code before you program it, if you like, using the SETUP+nnn method. For example, to test advanced code 123, you would ...

1) Tap DVD
2) Tap SET
3) Type 123 (and hold the final digit to simulate holding the original button)

Finally, in each of the examples we've given you so far, the first step is to press the DVD button. In reality, if you haven't pressed any other device button (eg, TV, VCR, etc) since the last time you pressed DVD, you can skip this step.

I appreciate all the great information you have both given me. I will follow all the instructions presented, and hopefully I will have a working remote.

Thanks again...I will let you know how it all goes.

I tried and I failed!! **update I said I have the URC-4021, I actually have the URC-4041.......Is that my problem....see below.

What I did was (to set up DVD/0711)
1. tap the DVD device button
2. Hold Set (wait for two flashes)
3. Enter 0711 code. After that I expected to flashes to confirm that the code worked. There were no flashes, which indicated to me that it did not except the DVD code.

After that I did try
1) Tap DVD
2) Hold SET, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Tap SET
5) Type 123 (from the list below)
6) Tap PLAY, 2 flashes
after entering the 994 code, I did get two flashes confirming that it was excepted,
I then tried the play code, as well as testing others, but nothing worked.

I must be doing something wrong. I am normally pretty good at this sort of thing, and can figure them out, but I am stuck on this one.

I think I need a full step by step from the VERY beginning until the end. I hope you can help me.

My model number for the remote is URC-4041B01

The URC-4041 has the following 9 setup codes listed for Apex:
0672, 0717, 0755, 0794, 0796, 0797, 0830, 0856, 1100

This list doesn't include the 2 codes I asked you to try out before (ie,
1056, 1061) but it does include 2 new codes (ie, 0830 and 0856). I can verify that 0830 is not the right code, but I don't know anything about the 0856 code, so you should try that.

The URC-4041 doesn't include the 0711 code I mentioned before, but it does include another code with similar properties: DVD/0782, so try using that one instead.

Don't even bother trying to do the 994 keymover operation until you have successfully programmed a valid setup code as I can 100% guarantee you that it won't work.

The KeyMove tconn already defined for DVD/Play will remain defined until replaced or cleared. Changing to setup code DVD/0856 would not replace or clear that KeyMove. So, to test the Play key in DVD/0856 you must clear that KeyMove:

1) Tap DVD
2) Hold SET, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Tap Play twice

That isn't needed before redefining the KeyMove using DVD/0782, only if you want to use Play in DVD/0856.

Better yet, unless you have some programming that you want to keep, why not clear out all keymoves using the 980 command...

1) Hold SET, 2 flashes
2) Type 980, 2 flashes (or maybe 4 flashes, I forget)

This is something I should do before I start from scratch?

Yes. Just FYI, the 980 command will just wipe out keymoves and macros, it will leave the setup codes that are assigned to the device buttons in place.

Well I am making some progress.....
I entered the DVD/0782 to the devise button. It flashed twice, and I had functionality. The problem is I have no idea how to set the keys. I tried doing the
Tap DVD
2) Hold SET, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Tap Play twice
To clear all and program my buttons.
I then tried the
Tap DVD
2) Hold SET, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Tap SET
5) Type 123 (advance code)
6) Tap PLAY, 2 flashes (did not get the two flashes)
I tried
testing an advanced code using the SETUP+nnn method.

1) Tap DVD
2) Tap SET
3) Type 123 (and hold the final digit to simulate holding the original button)
When I did that holding the 3 of the 123 did make the dvd play, but that's it. Play itseld works the volume....

I want to keep it simple, so I ask (I feel stupid) but whatever.
Step by step from after I set up the DVD/0782 (which I have done)
to every step after that to program the remote. Leave no detail missed if possible, but only what I need to know.
Sorry guys, but I am so close to having this done!!!!!

Thanks
