I just discovered that I now own the "remote codes difficult to work with" Pioneer VSX-xxx series, which can send 2 protocols at the same time for certain function. Referenced discussion I already proved that this remote is going to be a problem in trying to learn device input switch buttons for "TV/CONT" and "RECEIVER" when using my 8810 trying to learn from the Pioneer VSX-D814 receiver remote. 6 of the 8 buttons will learn OK, but when I try to learn from the 2 above, I just get the constant rapid blinking LED while attempting to learn and the 8810 finally times out. Uploading shows that the learned buffer is indeed empty.

Anyway, the above comments are for my future frustration only when I start thinking about using an extender and combining all my equipment.

This immediate issue is that although I was able to learn Vol Up/Down and Mute (all I need for simulated VPT), I just realized I don't have a clue how to assign these 3 Pioneer 165 protocol functions to the KM files I just got done creating for my 2 PVRs (which use Dish Network Unit 0 & 2 protocols).

With the pioneer oem remote, when you point it towards the receiver and press either REC or TVC, does it change the display to an input? No. There is nothing to learn, they're there to change the mode of the pioneer remote only.

Embarassed You are right. With the top row of 4 buttons, only buttons 1-3 change inputs 1-3, button 4 does not switch to input 4. Same with second row of buttons (5-7 will select but not 8 ).

However, I can get around this by selecting the 3rd button of each row, followed by in immediate "INPUT SELECT" (which steps the selection one more step or to the missing discrete selection).

You key move them using the AUD/1023 setup code. Since that is a two byte protocol, then you must use hex values in IR. You put them in as shown with a space in between.

Vol + 50 40
Vol - D0 40
MUTE 48 40

As far as input commands for your receiver, have you tried the numerals in setup code 1023. Those should be at least some of the discrete input commands.
