Upload your saved IR file to the Diagnosis Area, then come back here and post a link to it.

Then we can take a look at it and see if you've actually created the keymove correctly.

For a button in another device mode (let's use CBL as an example) ...

1) Press and hold SETUP, 2 flashes
2) Type 994, 2 flashes
3) Press VCR
4) Press (and release) SETUP (no flashes)
5) Type 014
6) Press the other device button (ie, CBL in our example)
7) Press the button to be programmed, 2 flashes

I do not understand what the problem is either......... I am following the instructions word for word......, but it does not work.

First i use the setup command to input 0490 to the vcr button... 2 flashes.

then step 1- 2 flashes
then step 2- 2 flashes
step 3- press VCR one flash
step 4- press setup one flash
step 5- type 014
step 6- push catv button
step 7- push catv button (again as this is the button I am trying to program to be the DVD button) no flashes

Even if it had worked...... I cannot understand how this is supposed to make my ReplayTV remote operate the DVD player on this Panasonic Combo... when the 0490 code itself will not operate any of the equipment.

It seems to me that we are trying to use a "keymove" procedure to move the 0490 codes from the VCR button to the CATV button to operate the DVD player.... except that the 0490 codes don't operate the DVD player to begin with... so how is going to help to move codes that we know don't work?

OK, basic mis-understanding of how these remotes work. You cannot program a keymove to a device button, the sole purpose of those buttons is to select a device mode. You program keymoves to regular buttons.

Greg here is a link to the Replay remote file

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=2050

The object to this endeavor is to have my Black ReplayTV remote operate my wife's Panasonic TV/DVD/VCR combo unit and her Replay 5040.

Okay..........

So the question is....... How do I program my Black ReplayTV remote to operate my wife's Replay 5040 (which is the default for the blue ReplayTV button)........ and have the

TV button operate the Panasonic Combo TV

CATV button operate the DVD player within the Panasonic Combo

VCR button operate the VCR within the Panasonic Combo

So far I have not found any codes that work for the TV or the DVD player.

The VCR code of 1162 will allow the power button to turn on the TV and the transport buttons to operate the VCR functions. One of the TV codes also controlled the volume of the TV player, but would not turn it on or off or change channels.

For some reason this process seems beyond my grasp..... so I will start a new post looking for paid programming assistance with this issue.

A quick summary this thread:

According to bwade_913,
once the unit has been put in DVD mode, the transport keys from VCR/1162 control the DVD. Have you tried this and verified it? Manually put the unit in DVD mode, then with your remote in VCR mode, try the transport keys. What happens?

Okay I had not caught that technique...........

Yes, if I turn on the TV and select DVD (which cannot be done manually you have to use the remote for the TV) then the vcr transport keys will control the DVD once it starts operating.

So I guess I need to figure out how to get one of the keys to select the DVD mode (CATV would be my first choice) and then do I just switch back to the VCR button to operate the DVD player?

Also I still have not found a code that will allow the TV button to operate the normal TV functions of power, channel, volume, input. The 0250 code will change video selections and adjust the volume, but will not turn the tv on or off and will not change channels... (adjusts input selection instead).

You can't assign a function that sends an IR signal to a device button (which CATV is). You'll have to use a different button in VCR mode, maybe Jump?

We already know that TV/0250 controls some TV functions. Is it just volume?
Are there buttons in either TV/0250 or VCR/1162 that change the channels?

Bummer!

Yes I checked it out and this is what else works ... sort of.

The TV/VCR button controls the INPUT selection

The Mute button works

The Volume button works

The Play, Stop, Rec., Pause, & FF, transport buttons control the VCR Cassette even though you are in TV mode.

That's All Folks!

You haven't found any buttons that change channels? Even in VCR/1162? What about the VCR CH+/- buttons when the unit is in TV mode?

In the VCR/1162 mode, the numbers 1-10 will select a channel (on the TV that is not the built in VCR)... say 08 will select channel 8.

If you push the channel up channel down button... if you are on Input1 it switches to Input2 then to channel 01, then 02, then 03. The reverse is also true if you are on Input1 and push channel down, it goes to channel 125.

OK. Let's summarize:

Unit in TV Mode:
TV/0250 is good for:
  • volume +/-
  • mute
  • VCR transport control

VCR/1162 is good for
  • power
  • channel +/-
  • VCR transport control
  • digits

VCR Mode: VCR/1162 does everything but volume.

DVD Mode: VCR/1162 does transport. What about others functions? Menu,

It looks like we'll just use VCR/1162 as our base, and use a few keymoves to get what doesn't work.

We'll just stay with a single device mode.

So, we need VCR/1162 assigned to the VCR device button.
We need keymoves from TV/0250 for the volume and mute buttons.
Vol- is EFC 217, Vol+ is EFC 213, Mute is EFC 151.

Now, we need a button to replicate the DVD button from the original remote. I thought we could assign it to the Jump buttin (in VCR mode).
It should be from DVD/0490 and the EFC is 018.

We need another button that duplicates the TV/VCR button from the original remote. Unfortunately there is no setup code we can use as a source for this keymove, so we create our own in RM or KM. I'd create the device upgrade as a VCR upgrade, setup code 1250, protocol Panasonic, Device 144, sub-device 5. Here's the empty device upgrade:
Code:
Upgrade code 0 = 24 e2 (VCR/1250) (RM v1.32)
 c9 00 01 56 bf fb f6 5f
End

Now create a keymove from VCR/1250 to VCR:TV/VCR with EFC 231.

So, you use the VCR device to control the TV, VCR, and DVD.
Use the TV/VCR key to swith between TV and VCR modes. Use the Jump key to switch to DVD mode.

In the VCR/1162 mode the Menu button activates the TV's Menu.

If I am following your direction correctly it looks like you are suggesting to move as many functions as can be found to a single (vcr) key. So that I will wind up using the Replay key for the Replay functions and the VCR key for everything else... Is this correct?

If this is the correct direction, then is there a reason why I cannot set this up on the 50xx series silver Replay Remote Control that only has two buttons (Replay & TV) to begin with?

Steve,
Do you still have the original Panasonic remote? If so, why don't you send it to me so I can capture the codes for all the buttons and totally eliminate all the guesswork. Do you still have my address?

Yes, but only because that is the way the device appears to be designed to operate. It seems that the device keeps track of the state it is in, and changes how it interprets the IR commands it receives. Most other combo units are simply two seperate units in one box, and each unit responds to a different set of commands. In that case I would use different device keys for each.

None that I am aware of, but I am not familiar with that remote. Does it have enough keys to operate this device?
