JP1 Remotes

I have an older RCA TV about- 15 years old. The remote only has 6 buttons= volume,channel, mute and on/off. I am trying to do an upgrade into my 2117 because none of the RCA codes work. I learned the codes into the 2117, it says success but when I look for the learned codes they arn't there. It says that it is out of bounds or too many bursts- big red flag. Has anybody had this trouble before trying to learn signals? BTW when I use the learned signals the TV responds. I would think if it says success and the TV responds that I should be able to see the protocol for that learned key.

The only way it shows a protocol name and other decode information is if the protocol is one that I've examined and I've written a decoder for.

It sounds like you found one I didn't write a decoder for, so save the eeprom image file from IR.EXE (containing those 6 learned signals) and upload it to the Yahoo JP1 diagnosis folder:

Post it's URL back here, and we'll probably be able to give you a protocol upgrade to generate those signals.

I think I did what you ask for. I saved the file as RCA.txt and uploaded it into yahoo. If you need more let me know. Again the remote works with the learned signals, but, doesnt show up on the learned signal tab. I learned #1 for the power button.

When you upload a file for diagnosis, you should post a link to it so we can find it easily. Besure to read the message regarding posting links to make sure you get it right.

I just looked at your file, and am getting the same error you talked about above. I'm not sure what that is exactly (I've never seen it before), but the 2 learned signals that show up certainly don't appear to be valid.

If you have your configuration saved in IR, I would suggest resetting the remote (full mfg reset) and then try learning the signals again. If they still don't decode, then you should upload that new file.

That seems to be an IR.EXE problem rather than a decoder problem

I hope one of the other experts will look at that.

But meanwhile, there is a chance the problem is caused by something wrong in previous eeprom contents in your 2117. Please try a full reset of the 2117 then learn and download a couple different buttons from that RCA.

Rob has posted instructions for the 2117 full reset (which is not in the RS documentation) in several places. I think it is a long press of P followed by the record key followed by some steps that should be obvious from the LCD (I hope).

Since that sounds a lot like this, try setup code TV/0135. Tommy's Tyler's IR analyzer just came up with different frequencies that varied by length of button push, I suspect that it uses different frequencies for each command.
