My TV remote died a few weeks ago so I decided to look into a universal remote to control all of my home theater components. I came across this JP1 group and the idea of being able to customize my remote is very appealing. One thing that I have been interested in doing for some time is setting up a remote control for my desktop computer's media programs (Winamp, Windows Media, etc.) I am wondering if anybody has developed any code to control these functions and if it is even possible to do. I currently do not have any type of IR interface to my PC, and I am looking for suggestions of what hardware to buy and how to set things up. Any information/suggestions would be appreciated.

The first step is to buy some sort of IR interface for your PC (like Streamzap, also see this). Once you have something like this set up, you can certainly use JP1 to program your JP1-enabled remote to control everything, including the PC.
