Sony Receiver STRDE597 and OFA 8810W

Please forgive me for my newbie questions...I am a total beginner at this JP1 stuff but it seems like it could be tons of fun!

I just bought a OFA 8810W remote and a JP1 cable to go with it although I am still learning about JP1.

I have a Sony Receiver (STRDE597) that I will need to somehow find codes for with the JP1 cable. What I really want to do is find a way to program this remote to work the receiver WITHOUT doing something that will make the factory remote totally un-usable. (ie AV1/AV2 switch).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Steve, future JP1 fan.

I assume the STRDE597 is set to AV2 and you have tried setup code Audio/1058 and the receiver doesn't respond to those commands.

If you wan't to control the receiver with AV2 you need to do a device upgrade for the Sony recever since those commands are not in the built in library. The main commands for AV1 are Sony12:16 and Sony12:17 whereas for AV2 the main commands are Sony15:48 and Sony15:49. (Sony12 or Sony15 is the protocol. 16,17,48, or 49 is the device code). IIRC, there is a device upgrade in the files for AV2 and more information here:

Thanks very much Jon, I will read your link and try that.

I did e-mail OFA and they said I can mail them the remote and they will put codes 1441, 1442, 1558, 1658, 1758, 1759, and 1858 on my remote and that the original factory remote will still work but I don't want to mail it to them, hopefully I can learn JP1 instead!

This STR-DE885 upgrade is configured to use AV2.

Basically, the device upgrades that UEI (makers of OFA remotes) will provide are the same as we do for device upgrades. If you don't have a JP1 cable then UEI is the only choice. With a JP1 cable you can custiomize the upgrade and get every button programmed with the command you want.

I would first try the upgrade the Mike provided the link to and see how close it comes (change the remote type to the 881x first) and load it into IR. If commands are missing then you can go to link I provided and get the rest.
