TOADTOG Question

Hi:
I have an 8811 remote and I've being reading Alexander Fichman's notes on the 6012/881x Extender (which is very interesting) but I don't get clear the TOADTOG concept.
In the example he uses:

VCR/Phantom1 VCR/DVD:1800 $09 $28

I understand by this that when the VCR is ON it executes $28 (which is L4) and forces VCR OFF. IF VCR is Off nothing happens.

VCR/Phantom2 VCR/DVD:1800 $88 $28

I understand by this that when the VCR is ON nothing happens . IF VCR is OFF it executes $28 (which is L4) and forces VCR ON.

What I don't understand is when it says it executes L4 because L4 ha not an specific function.

VCR/Phantom3 VCR/DVD:1800 $01 $28 $28

I understand here that it toggles bit and allways run L4.

The same doubt, L4 has not an specific function.

Thanks

I don't have that document handy to check, so I don't know whether it makes this clear:

That ToadTog example is written assuming that there is another KeyMove on L4 so that the L4 key by itself is the raw power toggle for the device.

That's an unusual choice of key for the raw power toggle. Most of us prefer to use a shifted key to hold the raw power toggle.

Unlike a phantom, the shifted key is available to use the raw toggle to get the device back in sync.

Unlike an unshifted key, the shifted key is not likely to be pressed by accident.

However, that unusual choice of key should invalidate any of the concepts in the example.

I always create the On toggles in Phantom1 and Off toggles in Phantom2. So the on for a VCR results in using the VCR device w/Ph1 and conversely Ph2 for the off.

Then I just use those keymoves in a macro as though they were discrete ON/OFF codes.

L4 just happens to have the code for power in the case of the example. Simply select the code for power on your device and it will do the same.
