JP1 only to learn discrete codes

I own a URC-200 that I am quite happy with. But, I also have an old JP1 compatible remote.
What I'd like to do is to find the discrete on/off codes for my components, quickly load those onto my JP1 remote, and then learn them on my URC-200.
But, after spending an hour or two reading the JP1 for beginners stuff, I was not sure that doing this would be easy. I may have missed something since the stuff I read was more oriented around fully programming the JP1 remote. I tried my best to weed through the detail but with no luck.
I'd just like to quickly transfer a few discrete codes onto the JP1, learn them, and then I really have no further use for the old JP1 remote.
Has anyone seen a post or a document that describes a simple way to do this?
