Remote Window in RM, Which remote to select

I have searched the documentation and cannot find references to the different versions of a remote that are displayed in the Remote window of RM

For example with the 8801 remote we have the following to choose from
URC-8801x
URC-8801x 1k
URC-8801x x2 2k
URC-8801x x3 2k
URC-8801x x3 8k$1815

there must be a difference between these. What is it?
On what basis does one choose one over another.

Any observations or thoughts are appreciated.

The simple answer is to pick the same one that IR picked for you when you did your first download in IR. Everything after the URC-8801x should show on the title bar of IR. My guess however, is the first is the correct one unless you are running the extender or added a larger chip then the third.

I'm assuming you made a typo when you entered those model numbers as there's no such remote as a URC-8801, there's a URC-8800 and a URC-8810 but I'm guessing that it's the URC-8810 that you're referring to which would be listed as URC-881x. Regardless, you should be able to select any of them as the keymaps are all the same. RM doesn't require seperate RDFs for these remotes, but IR.exe does, which is why they're there.

1) URC-881x
2) URC-881x 1k
3) URC-881x x2 2k
4) URC-881x x3 2k
5) URC-881x x3 8k$1815

The first RDF is the generic one for all un-extended un-modifed remotes in the URC-881x family (and for un-extended URC-801x/URC-601x remotes modified with a 2k EEPROM).

The second RDF is for URC-801x/URC-601x remotes that have been returned by UEI with upgrades added, these remotes have 1k EEPROMs added.

The third and forth RDFs are for 2k remotes using the x2 or x3 extenders.

The fifth RDF is for remotes modified with an 8k EEPROM chip that use $1815 as the "special" address.
