3-minute skip on Original Showstopper Remote?

Hello all,
I've been browsing through here for the past few days so that I could get a bunch of information about doing some programming on my remote. I am using the original remote that came with the ShowStopper ReplayTV unit. My Select button has gotten really flaky, and by using the information here, I found out how to program another button to be a second button for select and that works fine.
I was hoping that I would be able to figure out how to do this next part on my own, but I'm running into problems, and so I'm hoping there might be some help out there.
Now I want to find out about adding a button for the 3-minute skip that so many people are talking about. I found the Replay(Advanced) protocol and uploaded it to the remote. And then that created a second question.
Again the first question was about how to get the 3-minute skip assigned to a button.
The second question is that when I uploaded the Protocol Code and the Upgrade/Key Move to the remote, I then used IR.exe to assign the Reply button to the new type and code which was associated with the new protocol, and now there are some button definitions missing. If I look at the devices tab, when I select the original OEM:0001 device, I see button assignments for 40 buttons, including REPLAY_ZONES, CHANNEL_GUIDE, RETURN_TO_LIVE, etc. But when I set it to the new VCR/DVD:0616 device, I only get 34 buttons and the ones specific to the Replay stuff are missing. I can SEE the information in the KM spreadsheet, with tags identifying the new keys, but they don't show up for me to assign codes to.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
David

When you edit the Replay upgrade in KM, select OEM mode rather than VCR mode, that will give you all the buttons.
Then assign the "3 minute skip" function to the button of your choide, likewise for the "select" function. There's no need to move them around in IR and use up keymove memory.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

OK, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Here's what I did.
1. I started up KM and clicked the LOAD button, and loaded up ReplayTV-pan.txt.
2. For Remote, I selected ReplayTV(Version 1)
3. For Device Type, I selected OEM Mode.
4. For Protocol Name, I selected ReplayTV(Advanced)
5. I copied the S3C8 Protocol Code and created a new Protocol in IR.
6. I copied the Device Upgrade Code and created a new Device in IR.
I still don't see anything about mapping one of the buttons for 3-minute skip.
I am guessing that the information about the 3-minute skip comes from the text file that I load into KM, so now I'm assuming that the file I tried to load is the wrong file. If that is true, then can you give me a link to the correct one? Or if I am wrong, then please enlighten me.
Thank you

In KM, go to the Buttons sheet, pick the button you want the 3-minute skip function assigned to, and select that function from the in-cell drop down. Then you can copy & paste the upgrade code into IR.

I also think you want to use the ReplayTV.txt file to start with (that has all the x-minute skip functions defined).

That's what you did wrong. The Pan version doesn't have the 3 minute skip function, you need the regular Replay file.
Before you ask, yes, the Showstoppers respond to the regular ReplayTV signal.
Thank You

Thank you all for the tips.
Now that I know which file to use, I can see the button definitions.
I haven't tried it yet, but at least I know have an idea what I was doing wrong.

BTW I recently repaired my ShowStopper remote using the aluminum foil
method someone suggested a long time ago. Basically open the remote,
clean the select button area using alcohol, fold over some aluminum foil
(about 4 layers, fold over twice) and place under the rubber button
template, below the select button.
Select button now works perfect. The hardest part was opening the
remote. Instructions can be found here:

Better suggestion

This is a good idea, but I saw a better tip the other day on one of the web pages (I thought on hifi-remote.com).
Go to the auto parts store and look for a package called "Quick Grid Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit." The web page said it was made by LocTite, but the LocTite company also markets their products under another name, PermaTex. One bottle costs about $6.00.
This is a liquid that is applied with a small brush. The liquid, after dry, conducts electricity. Take apart the remote, and remove the rubber key membrane. Paint a thin layer of the liquid on the back of the button you are having trouble with. Also clean the circuit board where the button makes contact with a few light brushes of a pencil eraser. After it's dry, reassemble the remote and give it a try.
The bottle cost me about $6.00, and there is more than enough to coat a lot of broken remote buttons. Sure the tin foil might be cheaper, but this is a decent alternative.

There have been reports that the defogger stuff will flake off over time. There is a product on the market (that I haven't tried myself yet) that is especially designed to fix remote buttons.
Need help copying Select key on Replay Remote to Input Key

I have entered the EFC code of 218 (The EFC listed for the SELECT key) in the appropriate IR:Keymove box. Now instead of the INPUT (The destination button) using the SELECT function it is using the STOP function. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong here guys?

There's just too many possibilities for us to guess. If you post your IR file in the Diagnosis Area and then post a direct link to it, I bet any one of us could spot the error in seconds.
OK I have posted the file to the diags section....

Hope that links works.
EDIT: it didn't, but I fixed it. Please read the sticky thread that explains how to post links. - Rob.

No the link doesn't work, but I got your file anyway.
Your upgrade OEM_MOde/0224 uses two byte hex commands.
Your keymoves uses a one byte hex command.
If the upgrade is right, you should use the functions sheet in KM or RM for this upgrade to compute the right two byte hex command for whatever you intended that KeyMove to do.
In IR.EXE editing a KeyMove you cal select "Hex Cmd" and then type in the correct two byte sequence.
Alternately if the upgrade didn't need to use two byte hex commands, you'll need advice from someone who remembers more about any alternate versions of that protocol than I do.

I tried using the hex 00 1B that the SELECT button is supposedlyusing to overwrite (keymove) hte INPUT button which incidentally automatically fills in an EFC of 218*. Not sure hw to proceed with the meymaster method. I did the original upgrade some time ago and have become foggy about which file I imported into keymaster to begin with. I do recall loading a file and copying and pasting various field blocks into the ir program. Added some protocols for a new TV and Sony HT and associated all volume locks with the HT. This is as far as I have gotten. Seeems like this woudl be a simple thing to accomplish (If I knew what I were doing) would just like a copy and paste solution within ir.exe that allows one to overwrite a key with another alreadt copied attributes.
If anybody has the time and cares too; I would love a step by step solution for this as I am a little lost here on how to go forward.
