I have an ASK Impression 750 projector I picked up used. I lack a remote control for it, and there's no way to switch video inputs without it. Does anyone know of a remote that can control this projector?

There is IR data on 4 ASK devices here
http://ir.premisesystems.com/search.aspx?m=ASK

Two of those are RC5 protocol, device 7. They switch video inputs with OBCs 4, 5 and 6. That would be easy to duplicate as an upgrade from KM or RM or might already exist as some built-in setup code (I haven't checked yet. Knowing which JP1 remote you have would allow a more specific answer).

The other two are something I haven't figured out yet. But if one of those has the same signals as your model, we can figure it out.

I don't have a JP1 remote yet. Can you suggest one that would be likely to work? None of those projectors exactly match my model, but it might be worth trying those codes to see if any of them work.

The only built-in setup code I see for RC5:7 is TV/0638.

That is in several models, including the Walmart models 6102w and 8810w, as well as the Radio Shack (I think dicontinued) 15-2116 and 15-2133.

None of the keys are properly mapped in TV/0638 so all functions would require KeyMoves. That isn't too serious if you just need a few functions, but using a JP1 cable and an upgrade would be easier, in which case any JP1 remote will do.

If you want to test using TV/0638, here are the EFCs for a few functions:
Power: 092
V1: 061
V2: 093
V3: 253

I tried code TV/0638 on an 8810w, but none of the keys did anything. Looks like my projector must use a different set of codes.

I think you misunderstood my message. I know that none of the predefined keys in TV/0638 would work. I was suggesting trying those EFC numbers using TV/0638.

To test an EFC number you do
1) Short press of the set key
2) key in the first two digits of the EFC
3) Aim at the device
4) Press and hold the third digit of the EFC to test the device's response if any.

Note that you can't pause more than a few seconds between steps, so make sure you know the number and the sequence of steps before starting step 1.

Thanks for the clarification. I do seem to be getting somewhere, at least -- EFC code 092 does indeed turn the power on and off. 254 toggles the mute function. The others didn't do anything, but I assume this means the protocol is right and it's just a matter of finding the right EFC codes for the various functions?

To answer my own question, yup, that's it...just by trying EFC codes in sequence I've already found several of them. It helps that the power light on the projector flashes when it gets a valid code.

Since the protocol is right, I would have expected the functions I translated (from the 960 model) to also be right. 64 of the 128 possible commands for device 7 are scattered among the 256 possible EFC numbers (000 to 255). Most likely all the real commands are within those 64. I'm not sure there's an easier (non JP1) method than just trying all 256.

Once you know which EFC numbers you want, you can use KeyMoves to bine those functions to the desired keys.

Rather than try all 256 EFC, here's a list of codes that will probably do something. These codes are for an ASK 960 and WSX, taken from the page that John linked to. Some of the codes perform different functions on each of those two models, and coincidentally, 2 of the 3 codes John posted fall into that category.

Once you've tried all of these, if you find that there are still functions unacounted for, let me know and I'll give you a list of EFCs that are worth trying. Like John said, only 64 of the 256 possible EFC codes are viable.

189 - SCALE (960)
221 - CONTR DOWN
125 - BRIGHT DOWN
157 - TUNE DOWN
061 - SOURCE-1 / BLACK (WSX)
093 - SOURCE-2 / REAR (WSX)
253 - SOURCE-3
029 - BLANK / SCALE (WSX)
188 - REAR (960)
220 - FREQUENCY DOWN
124 - POSITION
060 - CONTR UP
092 - ON/OFF
252 - FREEZE
028 - BRIGHT UP
191 - OSD
223 - PAN
193 - MOUSE RIGHT
001 - RESET
224 - ARROW LEFT
128 - ARROW RIGHT
064 - DRAG
000 - ARROW DOWN
099 - MOUSE LEFT
194 - TUNE UP
162 - FREQUENCY UP
034 - ARROW UP

Thanks a lot for all your help! Here's what I came up with. I thought I'd post them in case someone searches for this in the future.

000 Down
001 Reset
028 Brightness +
029 Computer input
034 Up
060 Contrast +
061 Black on/off
092 Power on/off
093 Prog
096 ??? (Probably a mouse function)
099 Select
124 Pointer on/off
125 Brightness -
128 Right
156 ??? (Probably a mouse function)
157 Volume -
160 ??? (Probably a mouse function)
162 Microphone on/off
188 Composite input
189 Mask on/off
191 Menu
194 Volume +
220 SVHS input
221 Contrast -
224 Left
252 Freeze
253 Mute

Power on/off is pretty pointless on this projector, BTW...it turns off the LCD, but not the bulb, so you end up with a big white square. Wink

Good going DB, I have created an upgrade based on those codes for any JP1ers that might need it.

Just FYI, as your "select" code matches the "MOUSE LEFT" code in my list (which makes sense), I wouldn't mind betting that the 193 "MOUSE RIGHT" code is valid for you also.

You're right, that does seem to be a valid code, and I'd wager you're right about its function.

I don't have a computer plugged into it currently, so I can't verify any of the mouse functions (except as they're used for the setup menu -- that's why I listed 'mouse left' as 'select', since it selects a menu item.) I'll probably eventually build the computer cables for it, since the pinouts are in the manual, but I don't have any of them right now.

Gday,
I have the exact same problem with my projector (no remote) I was hoping my ONE FOR ALL URC-7541 remote might be able to the job? Or I'll have to buy a new remote. Any help greatly appreciated.
Daniel
