JP1 Remotes

I was hugely dissapointed when I realised that if I press a device button on the 9960, the IR switches itself to the relevant display page for the device, but it CANNOT also send a signal to the amp to select that device as the input source. So, to watch a DVD for example I have to first select the amp device, then select the input to source 4 then select the DVD icon on the 9960. True, I was able to accomplish this with the four macros, but my girlfriend keeps forgetting what macro controls what and it's not particularly intuitive.
My question is: can I use JP1 to reassign the device icons on the IR so that they achieve the dual goals of switching the amp and setting the IR to the right page. If so, I'd be more than happy to go to the trouble of learning JP1 programming.
I really can't believe that UEI didn't anticipate this most obvious of requirements!!!

You can do everything you said pretty easily if you read up on JP1. You can do a lot more if you really get into it. My remote does exactly what your goal is. In fact, I programmed the HT buttons so well for my setup that some of my device icons aren't even set to change the panel's display. For example, my Cable button select cable on my receiver, but it stays on the HT area (which has all the buttons of the cable page and more).

Once you do your reading on JP1, getting the hardware, and ge tthe extender on there, I can probably help you set it up, since I have been in your shoes.

The only negative effect I had is might backlight sensor doesn't work when I have the extender loaded. This is apparently a side effect on certian versions of the 9960. As a result I need to press a button to activate the backlight. The extender has an option not to send out that first signal when you activate it. I also set my backlight to stay on much longer than the normal setting (I don't have to worry about battery life as the backlight can never be turned on by accident).
