15-1994 using code 0054: How to "adjust" IR repea

Post by REKEMP10 »

Trying to control a Nexus DVB-S card - the only "canned" code that I found that works is 0054 but the IR codes are repeated twice and that can cause problems. Can some expert give me a hi-level pointer about how that can be modified? Just to be clear I'm not talking about holding the key down too long - this code sends out the same IR codes twice for each key press....thanks for any help....rek

Whenever you make reference to a setup code there are two pieces of info that we need, the first is the device type (eg, TV, VCR, etc) the second is the code number itself.

There are two "0054" codes in the 15-1994, those being TV/0054 and VCR/0054. As I have no idea what a DVB-S card is, I don't know which of those codes you are using.

TV/0054 uses RC-5 with device code 0.
VCR/0054 uses NEC1 with device code 104.

Earlier, in my usual practice of reading the post and forgetting the title, I missed the detail that the remote was a 15-1994, so I wasn't sure those were the only 0054 setup codes to worry about.

Now that Rob narrowed it down, I'll mention that the symptom description (if accurate) is quite implausible for an NEC1 signal, so we can be nearly sure it is TV/0054.

The only way to change that behavior for RC-5, would be to define a new protocol upgrade for RC-5. I think that would be pretty easy in the ProtocolBuilder spreadsheet, especially if you need only one device number per setup code (rather than RC-5's usual 3-way mini combo).

BUT

The repeated frame makes the signal more reliable and RC-5 has a toggle bit that allows the signal receiver to unambiguously distinguish between this sort of repeat and a true next instance of the same command. So the symptom means that the device receiving the IR signal is seriously misprogrammed for the RC-5 protocol. Maybe you should look into getting that right rather than changing an already correct IR signal to compensate for a fault in the receiver. Of course if the IR receiver behavior is totally beyond your control, that wouldn't be an option.

Thanks guys for the infor - I'll do some digging. It was the 0054 code for TV. As far as a DVB-S card it's essentially a satelite receiver that's on a PCI card - plugs into the PC. Really neat stuff you can do with it but I'm still fine-tuning controlling it with IR codes - 90% there but not perfect.....rek

Rek,
Do you have an original remote for this card? If so, does it work properly as far as not repeating the signal? If that's the case, could you learn the signals from the original remote using your 15-1994 and then post the file for us to look at in the Diagnosis Area. It will most likely confirm what John was suggesting, but it would be nice to see what the working signals look like so we can compare it to the TV/0054 signals.
