JP1 Remotes

Not new to JP1 and currently have an rs 15-2116 that does most everything I need. The problem is that I know where every button is since I assigned them but the wife has a difficult time remembering what button does what for each componet. I would like very much to make the remote as wife friendly as possible. With that in mind:


Is there a JP1 remote with LED display buttons that can be labled so she could see what she is doing, or wanting to do.

What remote has the most buttons so I could set up more macros without using shifted functions. She has a problem remembering to press power twice first.

I am currently considering the Home Theater Master MX-700 Remote. Has anyone experience with this remote. How much better off am I with JP1 than the MX-700. I know the expense is there but if mama ain't happy aint nobody happy.

I appreciate any assistance or direction you can provide.

If programmed right, you should be able to get the 15-2116 pretty wife friendly. For starters you could put macros on the shifted device buttons that fire up the system and put everything in the right mode for that device. You could also put macros on the un-shifted device buttons that do everything to switch to that mode from another mode (ie, you don't need to turn everything on as it's mostly already on).

As for the functions that don't have exact matches among the 15-2116 buttons, be creative in picking good buttons for these functions and use logic that your wife can follow.

If the 15-2116 just isn't ever going to pass the WAF test, and a JP1 remote with more buttons would, you should go with either the URC-8811 (no LCD screen) or URC-8910 (w/ LCD screen). Both of these have 4 learning buttons and 3 or 4 macro buttons.

If that's still not going to get it done, I would suggest the MX-500 which is much cheaper than the MX-700 (ie, about $100).

Btw, the count is higher than 15,000 now, it's currently up to 17,505!

I think the biggest issue is the lables for the keys. She says if they were labled correctly she could figgure it out. The 8910 looks good to me and with the 4 additional macro keys that might get it done.

Just FYI, the URC-8910 only has 3 macro keys (plus 4 learning keys)

Well. Glad to report that after taking more time with the wife to explain the concept of the remote, how it does what it does, shifted keys and how they work, the 15-2116 is going to work out fine. She is no dummy, just pertty logical. Once she understood why she had to "push this twice, then this once" it was like a light turned on and it made sense to her.

I think the problem was more with me not explaining it to her. Once she knew why she was doing things it all came togeather. The best part is if she gets into a problem she can power cycle everything and start again.

Our system is complicated, would be for anyone. We have OTA HD, C/KU an C band HDTV, video source and A/V source is different for everything, having to change this if you change that, but not if you change the other can be dustrupting. Macros made this very easy, the way it should be.

On another note. I see WAF in a lot of posts, what does it mean?
