Confused
I have tried creating my first upgrade. I am trying to add my samsung dvd/5.1 receiver combo. I have hd no luck finding the codes for this beast but I was able to borrow a learning remote and capture all the key presses from the device's remote.

After learning all the codes, I when through all the steps in "JP1 for beginners" to try the upgrade. I am using a millenium 4 remote and I have set up the keymap spreadsheet.

After loading the upgrade codes into IR, everything looks fine. After I upload everything to the remote, it just does not work.

Here is a sample line from what I captured using the learning remote.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
function protocol device sub device obc hex efc
power NEC2 67 83 1 7F 185
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

in key master for the remote id use:
Remote=Milleniun 4
device type=VCR
Setup Code=1567
Button Codes=EFC
Protocol=NEC2
Main Device=67
Sub Device=83
Parm= (empty)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following is what is copied from the device upgrade.

Upgrade Code 0 = 26 1F (VCR/1567)
5A 00 FE FD 21 3D 35 0B 7D BD 3D DD 5D 9D 1D 03
13 33 23 63 3B 2B 7F EB C7 77 3F 3F 27 37 2F 4B
KeyMoves
27 F3 26 1F 93 31 F3 26 1F 4F 32 F3 26 1F 57 33
F3 26 1F 47 34 F3 26 1F 5B 14 F3 26 1F 5D 20 F3
26 1F 9B 23 F3 26 1F C7 30 F3 26 1F 67 35 F3 26
1F 6F 36 F3 26 1F 77
End
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If someone has any ideas as to why this is not working for me, I would
appreciate the assistance. I could forward the files if necessary.

Thanks

Did you use the right rdf for the version of Millenium 4 remote you have? The start of the keymove area is different, and depends on if you have a B00 or a B01/B04. Your upgrade has a awful lot of keymoves (because you defined it as a vcr device), and if the rdf you are using has the wrong keymove "start" area, all those keymoves will be wiped.

I don't think the current IR.exe has both Mill4 rdfs. I *think* the latest version has the one for the B01/B04, so I'd surmise that your remote is a B00 version. Both versions should be in the rdf folder at JP-1 Yahoo groups in Files>rdf, and actually neither is the latest.

The latest version of BOTH rdf's is in Remote Master, and RM lets you choose the right rdf for the version of Mill4 you have. I'd suggest getting the latest RM (v.70) and remaking your upgrade as a CABLE device, use IR to redefine the device button you want to assign it to to "Cable" (Cable aloows assigning functions to all but 2 keys instead of the paltry "legal" buttons allowed for a vcr upgrade, thus eliminating most if not all those keymoves).
Then, delete the Mill4 rdf in IR, and copy and paste BOTH Mill4 rdf's from RM's rdf folder to IR, and select the SAME rdf as you used to make the upgrade. A new release of IR will allow more seamless selection, but I don't know when that new release will be available.
Hopefully, that will cure all your problems.

On second thought, I'll post Both of the Mill4 rdf's in the rdf folder so you don't have to download RM. Just delete the Millenium 4 that's currently in your copy of IR, and copy and paste the two in it's place. I'd still remake that upgrade as a cable device tho. Reopen KM, LOAD your previously made file, and just change the device type to Cable from vcr. You should notice that keymoves drops to none, or just two at most. After putting the two rdf's in IR, delete the old upgrade, ADD the new in "Devices>add" in IR, and redefine the vcr button to cable if that's the one you want to use it on, being sure that the setup code is the same as the one you've assigned to the upgrade.

I've uploaded both Mill4 rdf's to JP-1 files>rdfs. IR 3.21a only has one of the Mill4 rdfs, and it's not the latest as included in the last few releases of RM. From a quick glance at the Mill4 rdf in 3.21a, it appears to be the one for the B01/B04 but is missing some key components; as well as missing the rdf for the B00 version.

If you're unsure of just which version of Mill4 you have, click on the two rdf's, and read the "Identification=...." part near the top; from that you should be able to determine if you have a B00 or B01/B04. Some future release of IR will have an "bar" to click on to be able to read that part without having to actually open the rdf's in notepad to read it.

Confused

I did everything you said. All the moves are now gone, and it all looks correct. I double checked the remote it is a B01 model. However, when I upload it back to the remote, the device just does not respond to any of the keys.

One this that I did notice is that everytime I try to download from the learning remote to get the learned keys, it breaks the learning function on the remote and the learned keys no longer work. I am wondering if the information read back is accurate. (maybe the protocol or something).

The learning remote is a 6 in One (15-2104).

My upgrade now looks like this.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Upgrade Code 0 = 06 1F (Cable/1567)
5A 00 FE F8 FE 80 71 21 3D 35 0B 7D BD 3D DD 5D
9D 1D 03 13 33 23 63 3B 2B 7F EB C7 3F 3F 27 37
2F 4B 93 4F 57 47 5B 5D 9B C7 6F 77 67
End
--------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for your help.

load the IR saved file from the 2104 and your KM save file (your upgrade) in diagnosis at JP-1 yahoo group and I'll check for obvious errors. Post back here when you have them loaded there. Post a IR save from your Mill4 as well.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you.

I have posted the files to "upgrade_diagnostic_files.zip".

I really only have one learned key now on 2104, that is the power for the samsung home theatre. I was playing around with a few things. If I can get one key working, I can get the whole bunch working.

Thanks again.

I noticed that under the learned keys for the 2104, that there is a sequence of numbers listed under "Sent Repeatedly While Key is Being Pressed".

The sequence is:
+4498 -4504 +558 -1680 +558 -1680 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -1680 +558 -530 +558 -1680 +558 -1680 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -1680 +558 -530 +558 -1680 +558 -530 +558 -1680 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -530 +558 -1680 +558 -1680 +558 -1680 +558 -1680 +558 -1680 +558 -1680 +558 -1680 +558 -46736

Can someone tell me exactly what this sequence means and could it be the secret to resolving my problem with getting this to work.

Thanks

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
Thanks James for your help...

I was playing with additional protocols, and using NECx2, it worked.

Now I can have some fun.
