Combination of Buttons

Post by JoeDarkness »

I recently purchased the RS 15-2116, because the hacking features with the JP1. I like the challenges. But I have a question.

Can I program the remote control using JP1 hacks for control both devices at the same time? Example, power on the satellite receiver and the tv with the touch of one button.
Or configure the “my system” button for example when I pressed this button and press the power button power on the tv and satellite receiver?

Thanks

Yes. You could do that using the MACRO functions of the remote through its internal setup or via IR.exe/JP1.

I use the IR/JP1 method since I am a noob and don't want to have to worry about keypress time limits and miskeying during programing. To start with I would use shifted keys for what you wish to do to avoid miskeying or having your cat shut off your stuff without warning.

I, too, just purchased the 2116 and made a JP1 cable to play with and I am just learning this stuff myself.

I have Shift - DVD set the TV input, DVD audio input on the 5.1 surround decoder and power up DVD then a shifted My System to return the equipment back to normal ReplayTV viewing. This stuff is neat.

If you plan to use IR/JP1, first enter the devices into your remote so everything works. Then plug in your jp1 and launch IR and take a snapshot to use as your baseline (Download from remote and save file). Mouse over to the MACROS tab and click ADD. A new screen appears where you enter the info. In the top dropbox select the key where you want to put the macro such as DVD and check the SHIFTED box (the 2116 manual states that you cannot use power button for macros but I am sure there is a way using keymoves or an extender but I am not that far along, yet), now you just assemble the keypresses from the left scrollbox and place them into the right side box in the order they are to be executed like:

Command ;these are notes used in this post. not seen in IR
__________________________________________________________-
TV ; selects tv device
POWER ; powers the above device
CH- ; switches above device down 1 channel (my TV puts my AUX inputs below channel 2 ie, SVideo, Aux, 2, 3, 4 etc
AUDIO ; selects 5.1 decoder
1 ; sets decoder to the 5.1 input
DVD ; selects DVD device
POWER ;powers above device

Since DVD was las device entered, thats the device the remote will be set to when the macro finishes.

Now just UPLOAD to the remote and wait for the remotes' LCD to clear showing its done and ready, Press your shift key("P" -programming key) briefly then the DVD key and see if it works. If its not quite right go back and tweak the macro commands and UPLOAD the changes. You can leave the cable plugged in and IR running during testing on this remote. When it's all set, do a Save AS in IR.exe with a new filename, unplug the cable, set the clock on the remote (uploading resets the remote clock to 12:00) and enjoy.

I also have used the IR Learn feature of the remote to learn the the Audio device/AMP volume controls to the DVD device VOL+, Vol- and MUTE so I can stay in DVD mode the whole time.

As noted I am a noob and there may be better methods but this works well for a start. Happy experimenting!
