simple questions

Hi,
I'm a urc-8811 owner and got some simple questions:

(1) What is protocol NEC1-a? (that can be found on Devices.xls file)
(2) Is this protocol suported by KM? (I'm trying to build a device upgrade for Timeless cable box - setup code 0418 - that uses this protocol)

I've learned all buttons from original remote and IR recognizes them as NEC1, main device 133, subdevice 123. After built device upgrade on KM and uploaded to remote, none of buttons works. I suspect that protocol is the problem.

Any help will be welcomed.

What frequency did IR report for those NEC1 decodes?

I'm not sure what the author of Devices.xls meant by NEC1-a

I think CBL/0418 uses protocol 00C5.

I think protocol 00C5 is a 40Khz version of NEC1.

I don't see any mention of a 40Khz NEC1 in KM, though I'm sure Rob knows that version exists. I'm probably missing something obvious.

You can make KM use protocol 00C5 by selecting "pid: 00 C5" from the protocol pull down (the "pid" choices are after the normal ones). Then you'd need to set the Dev/Parm values to 127,133,123 (Since KM doesn't associate your choice of 00C5 with NEC, it doesn't know how to compute the first parm nor does it know that device is second and subdevice third, so you need to provide those three numbers.)

I hope the EFCs from the decode work right in KM for pid 00 C5. I'm not certain that protocol uses the same EFC rules as regular NEC1.

It worked perfectly!
IR reports a frequency of 40KHz as you supposed. Just changed protocol to pid 00 C5 in KM, put suggested numbers for dev/parm and LSB-COMB as signal style. It worked right without changes on EFC´s.

I'm responsible for the old "NEC1-a" in the old devices.xls spreadsheet, all it was meant to indicate was that it is the 2 device version of NEC1 (ie, it has a sub-device) rather than the 1 device version.

I don't recall the details of the C5 protocol, but the main user of 40kHz NEC signals is Pioneer and the basic "Pioneer" protocol in KM should create a 40kHz NEC signal (I forget if it's NEC1 or NEC2), but as I'm typing this, I also seem to recall that this protocol only uses 1 device code, so never mind.

Pioneer dvd will let you use 2 device codes, sends 40K freq. and is basically a Nec 1 type protocol running at 40K. FWIW, many times a Nec1 signal will work with Pioneers, even tho it's a 38K signal. It's only off by about 5%, and many times Pioneer devices aren't that fussy over 2-3K difference.

The simple Pioneer signals are 40Khz NEC2, not NEC1. The 2 devices in non-simple Pioneer signals are really two device numbers, not one device and one subdevice as they are in protocol 00C5. I don't know all the Pioneer protocols very well, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some way to get a subdevice from one of the Pioneer protocols, but it's still NEC2 not NEC1.

John's right, all the Pioneer variants send signals with ONE device code (no sub device code)
