JP1 Remotes

Can this remote be programmed with a macro? I just found out about JP1 and that this remote has JP1. Plus I just found out from Robman on the AVS forum that you can skip forward in 1 minute increments with ReplayTV. As an example you can skip forward 2 minutes by hitting the 2 key and then the quick skip key. Problem is the keys aren't close to each other and it's quite cumbersome to do, especially at night since you can't see the keys (not a backlit remote).

Once I'm watching a ReplayTV show the only button I really use on the remote is the quick skip, so I'd like to be able to hit one of the mode buttons (say VCR) and then setup the number keys as skip keys. So the 1 key would skip forward 1 minute, etc? Is this possible?

To answer your first question, no this remote cannot use macros.

To answer your second question, yes, you can program a button to skip 2 or 3 minutes, you can do this using the "Replay (Advanced)" protocol in KM.

If you were to get yourself a JP1 cable, I would show you how to do it.

Do you sell the JP1 cables or where do you recommend getting one. I just picked up a 8810W from Walmart (for $20 I figured I couldn't go wrong) so between the old ShowStopper remote and this one I'm hoping I can get everything working.

OK, I made a JP1 cable today and have my first question. I followed your tutorial and downloaded IR, the RDFs, and DecodeIR.dll. I set the RDF path and downloaded the remote but on the main screen of IR nothing is showing up under the general tab. If I look under Raw Data there is a bunch of hex data there some something did download. Should I see data under the general section for the Panasonic Showstopper remote?

Did you "remote|download from remote" or hit the big rectangular button download from remote?

If that's not it, I think you got an 8810W, what happens if you connect your JP1 cable to it and download.

In reality all IR is doing is reading(download from remote) and writing (upload to remote)to the EEPROM, so you have to download the existing contents, make any desired changes, and then upload the changes into the Remote for anything to change.

I tried both ways and nothing shows up under the general section. You are correct that I just got a 8810W and same thing with that remote. I did check the raw data and it is different for each remote. I don't get all the other keys that show up in the tutorial either (key moves, macros, etc)

OK, I figured out the problem. Under set RDF path, I was single clicking the directory so it was highlighted, and then clicked OK. This is fine for most programs, but IR needs you to double click the directory and then click OK. Stupid mistake I guess.

OK, got another question. I don't have the manual for the original ShowStopper remote, so I'm wondering how you program the cable, sat, vcr buttons? There is the code set button on top of those 3, so do you hit the button you want to program, then code set, the enter some code and finally hit the button again? I'd like to get the basic codes into the remote before using JP1 to make edits. Thanks.

Also where do you get the codes from. Can I use the same code that I use on the 8810W?

How about this question. I'm taking baby steps and would just like to get the ShowStopper remote Vol+/Vol-/Mute to control my NAD receiver's volume/mute. If I go in under device on the ShowStopper it shows the vol+/vol-/mute (shows up on key # 11,12 & 13) as unmapped. There are 5 bytes of fixed data (D6 BF FB FF D6 ) that show under devices for OEM 0001. If I click on edit under devices the hex data skips over the 3 unmapped keys so I'm assuming I somehow need to change this fixed data to unmask out the 3 unmapped keys. Anyone know how to do this? I do have the hex values for the vol/mute keys from the NAD that I learned onto my 8810W.

Rob may know the manual process to do this but why not do this instead:

1. Save your existing EEPROM image by opening IR,
2. download from Remote,
3. File Save as Original file.txt

Now you have the image before you make changes, then under the general tab you put in the setup codes and upload to the remote. If at anytime something breaks just open Original File.text in IR and upload to the remote and you are back where you started.

Yes AFAIK, the ShowStopper uses the same setup codes as most other OFA remotees. the best collection of setup codes is at www.hifi-remote.com under "Setup Codes"

It's not quite that easy the hex is for the variable portion of the command. You will need to do this with Volume Punch Through (VPT) but you will first need to add a small NAD device upgrade. Make sure that this agrees with your learned commands.

Most NAD receivers use NEC1:135.124 (NEC1 protocol:device=134.Sub-Device=124). Open KM Master and create a device upgrade. Select your remote type, make up a number for the setup code 1999 will work, you can pick device Type=Tuner. KM Master defaults to the NEC1 protocol, so just enter device and sub-device numbers. Go to the functions Tab and enter EFC's 060, 061 and 124 for Vol+, Vol- and Mute respectively and then go back to the setup tab and copy:

Upgrade Code 0 = 37 CF (Tuner/1999)
5A 00 41 20 1E C1 EE CE D6
End

(This assumes that you have already opened IR and "download from remote"), select the devices tab, hit the new button and paste that in. If you want to just paste in the device upgrade above, it is what I just described.

Then go to the general tab and assign Tuner 1999 to the Aux device key and then to the right (assuming it has this) set the VPT device to Aux, and set to On or Always On.

BTW, it is always good to upload your file from IR to the JP1 Files|Diagnosis area and provide a link (read the sticky about how to post links to the Yahoo files area). That way I can load your remote and be more specific. If this doesn't work, do that and let us know it's there.

Keep in mind as long as you kept your original EEPROM image described in my previous post, you can't hurt anything -- so, go set your hair on fire and experiment

OK, the first thing I did was save my original image on both the ShowStopper and 8810W just in case. The code I put in the 8810W for the NAD is 0320. On the 8810W under the devices tab there is nothing, but the ShowStopper has 6 VCRs, 1 cable, 1 TV and the OEM code. Since there are no devices in the 8810W how does it know how to set things up for the 0320 type code (ie. NAD)? If I put that code into the ShowStopper on the General tab under Cbl/Sat will it setup the remote for the NAD? Under other setting on the general tab the ShowStopper has a VPT for each device, so I can just set the Replay VPT device = Cbl/Sat. Also back under general each device can be set to either cable, TV, audio, VCR/DVD or OEM. Right now nothing is set for audio so since the NAD is audio is it important to set Cbl/Sat to audio so that it recognizes the 0320 code?

OK, I downloaded KM read through your instructions and I got similar results except for the number in () below. I did learn the 3 functions into my 8810W and brought that up in IR to verify that the EFC, protocol, device and subdevice were all correct and they are.
