Has anyone tried mounting a DIP socket for installing EEPROM's? It would allow one to try different configurations without soldering a different chip in each time, and the circuit boards are a little delicate and won't take too many changes?

I can find the chips with DIP packaging, but I can't find an 8 pin, surface mount socket, as such. Some of the sockets have pins that might be reformed for the application.

This is just an idea that has been with me for some time and I wondered if anyone else had experience.
