Newbie help with creating a DVD upgrade for a 8810w

I have successfully created an upgrade for my receiver but I am having trouble creating one for my Sharp S2U DVD player. I'm using IR (v 4.02) and RemoteMaster (v 0.94). There isn't a code listed for any Sharp DVD players so I emailed OFA for some codes. They suggested 0630 and 0752. 0752 doesn't register in the 8810w and 0630 doesn't operate the DVD player. I have learned the transport codes, uploaded them into IR, created a upgrade file in RM, transferred the upgrade information to IR and downloaded the upgrade to my remote, but my DVD player doesn't respond when I try to use the 8810w. If I re-download the original learned codes to the 8810w it operates the DVD player. There is probably a simple step I am missing but I can't figure it out. I tried to upload the learned and upgrade files to the Yahoo Groups JP1 diagnostics area but I get a "cannot find server" error. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Sterling

PS Is there an easier way to get the learned EFC codes from IR to RM other than typing them in RM?

As a wild guess, I'd say you either forgot to select a protocol in RM or you forgot to enter a device code. (Note that I said "device code" which is not the same as "setup code").

I believe I selected a protocol and entered a device code (I'll check for sure when I get home). If I'm still having problems uploading files to the JP1 groups is there some where else I could post them (or I could email them to you)?

You can email them to me and I'll post them in the Diagnosis Area folder for you.

I emailed you the files using the email link on the Hifi-remote home page.

Thanks for the help and quick response! As far as I can tell I selected a protocol and entered the device code in RM.

I loaded "Sharp S2u DVD learned transport.txt" into IR, and looked at the "Learned Signals" tab.

The decodes all show protocol "Kaseikyo-170.90" for the protocol, not Sharp DVD, which is what you used in your upgrade.

I've changed your upgrade to uses Kaseikyo instead of Sharp DVD, you can get it here. Give it a try.

Sharp DVD signals are the same thing as Kaseikyo-170.90, but the protocols.ini entry for Sharp-DVD is wrong.

Sharp DVD uses a PID that is built-in on some models of remote (an advantage) but uses two byte hex (a disadvantage). That PID 00F8 is flexible across a wider range of Kaseikyo family protocols. But it requires that KM or RM compute the second byte of the hex command (which is missing from protocols.ini).

If your remote doesn't have that version of 00F8 built in, there is every advantage to using the Kaseikyo PID 01C9 instead.

But someone out to either fix or remove the Sharp DVD entry in protocols.ini, so it isn't a trap for future users.

Thanks for the help!

I'll try that this weekend.

Well, I'm almost there!

Thanks for the help. The upgrade works but there is still a minor problem. The remote repeats the DVD button pushes very quickly. Unless I just tap the button I get multiple signals. For example, if I push the track ahead button too long it skips several tracks. Any suggestions?
