|

Hi all,
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, and have been running RMIR successfully for a long time. Today I tried to fire up RMIR version 2.02 (I had not yet upgraded to the latest version), and got an error involving javaw.exe when I double-clicked the RMIR icon. I had this error once before, and when I did, I simply re-ran setup.vbs and all was well. This time it was not. Upon running setup.vbs, I got this error: "Program shortcuts were not created because javaw.exe was not found."
I decided now was as good a time as any to upgrade to RMIR version 2.03, build 8, so I downloaded the full build and double-clicked setup.vbs and got the same program shortcuts error above.
I've looked around a bit and haven't found any unresolved recent occurrences of this error. I suspect windows updated something recently and messed something up. Can anyone help me? I don't know how to run RMIR without the shortcuts.
Thanks,

Just a quick note to anyone looking into this: I went through the same routine on an older computer running Vista and everything worked fine. Something is different in Windows 7.
Thanks for any help.

Reinstall java runtime and try the setup again.
Otherwise you can fix the shortcut manually by changing the Target to something like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_31\bin\javaw.exe" -jar RemoteMaster.jar
using whatever the actual path to your latest javaw.exe is. |

Hello again,
I solved my problem by installing Java manually. Something must have happened during the last update cycle, I have no idea what, but when I went here and followed instructions to manually install, all was well.
https://www.java.com/en/download/help/windows_manual_download.xml
After installing Java, I ran setup and the shortcuts were created successfully. I fired up RMIR and it seems to be working fine.
