i bought one of the jp1.2/1.3 to jp1 adapters from diygadget and am having problems getting it to see the remote.

i have a jp1.2/1.3 cable which installed with the native win 7 delcom driver.

ir 8.03 tells me it cannot locate a delcom driver.
i reviewed posts and apparently i need a delcom vcp driver which i got from the delcom website.
i am afraid to install it for fear i will screw up my original delcom installation and then have problems with my jp1.2/1.3 cable

can someone confirm that if i install the vcp driver, it won't screw up the other delcom usb driver and it will work to see my jp1 remotes.

also the adapter doesn't have a pin 1 indicator.
is it just trial and error to figure out the orientation.

thanks a lot.

DIYGadget should be able to tell you which driver. I don't think anyone has made or sold Delcom based cables for years, nor did Delcom ever make a VCP driver that I know of. Win 7 has never had native Delcom drivers. Maybe you meant FTDI.

It sounds like you have simply picked the wrong interface in IR.

I recommend you use Remote Master from now on anyway instead of IR.

There should be a tiny arrow for pin 1. If not, then trial and error is ok.

To amplify mdavej's remarks, the Delcom chip was only used in cables for JP1 remotes. A JP1.2/1.3 interface cable can not use Delcom drivers; instead it is likely to use either the FTDI or Prolific chipset, so it would need the corresponding driver type.

The JP1 to JP1.3 adapter in combination with a JP1.2/1.3 interface cable makes a JP1 remote act like a JP1.2/1.3 remote. From the perspective of IR or RMIR, the remote looks like it employs a serial communications interface, and not the I2C interface used by JP1 remotes. The good news is that the appropriate driver for the JP1.2/1.3 cable won't interfere with an existing Delcom driver in any way.

In RMIR, just specify automatic detection of the interface type.

my bad with regard to the delcom driver.
seems like ir looks for it and i got confused or never knew about the ftdi driver.

in any event, i keep getting 'no remote found'.
i put fresh batteries in the 6131.
i have the interface on auto.
i turned the adapter around but no difference.

i did install the pl? drivers from the diygaget website with no difference.

i opened up a trouble ticket at diygadget and now i am waiting there.

any ideas.

is it really time to trash the jp1 remotes.
i really like my 6131.

sigh

Wait... 6131? That's a JP1 remote. It won't work with a JP1.x cable (unless you are using an adapter).

Sorry, misread your original post.

So you've installed the FTDI driver. Does the port show up in the device manager when the cable is connected? Have you tried manually using the port shown in the device manager with RM IR rather than using auto detect?

gentzel,
irv6744 has said that he installed the "pl?" drivers from the DIYGadget website. Those are Prolific drivers.

irv6744,
Checking your previous posts, it appears that you have a cable from Tommy Tyler and further you've used it with an Atlas 1056B03 JP3 remote. If the cable still works with the Atlas, then the computer already has the correct drivers installed. The adapter does not need a driver-- all of its magic is in firmware inside the adapter. Also, if the interface cable works with the Atlas, then RMIR (or IR) is finding the correct port. BTW, Tommy's cables use the FTDI chipset.

So it appears that the adapter itself is the problem. It's also possible that the 6131 isn't working.

Indeed. I should read twice before posting. My apologies for the confusion.

To reinforce 3FG's post, if you have a JP1.x remote (e.g. an Atlas) and your cable works with it, then the problem is very likely with the adapter or the remote. Is this a remote you've previously used with an older JP1 cable?
