JVC volume learning difficulty

I have a bookshelf JVC system that plays sound from my TV which is connected to 4 PVRs. I want to pass the volume from the stereo into all 4 PVR buttons on my 6131.

I learned the vol+, for instance, via my OFA-8810w. This is what I get:

"Part of this signal is sent after the button is released. While this could be correct, it may indicate that the signal was not learned optimally. It is recommended that you attempt to re-learn the signal at least once, being sure not to release the button until the remote's LED flashes twice.

# Protocol Device Sub-Device OBC Hex Cmd EFC Misc
1 JVC 159 2 BF 183
2 JVC {2} 159 2 BF 183"

I transferred this to a Keymap spreadsheet with Setup Code 0074, JVC Protocol Name, 159 Device Code.

What bothers me, in addition to the unusual learned code information above, is I do not know what "Device Type" to use on Keymap, and for reasons that are obscure to me now, it does impact the Upgrade Code. I tried a few types, and nothing works.

Anyway, copying the code to IR as a new device on the Device tab, not sure what device type to use, tried a few, but mostly AUD, tied to dev7 button. Not sure what Device type to use on the General page either, used Aud - must this agree with the Device tab name, or do I incompletely understand the basics? Used Keymove tab to move Volume + from dev7 to, for instance, the PVR Device, Vol+ bound key. Does not work. For some inscrutable reason, the Vol- counterpart works, but intermittently. I am converting the number to the Hex, entering "00 B7" for the Hex Cmd for the Bound Key. Very weird.

Help, please!

If you are creating the upgrade, you are free to use whatever device type you like. When you transfer it to IR, you must not change the device type there or the buttons could well end up in the wrong place.

As you want to use VPT on this, select the correct device mode for whatever device button you are going to use.

I started out fresh with a clean slate, everything the same as before as far as I can tell, and now it works correctly. Strange!
