Normally I would help, but unfortunately TMY is not a recognised manufacturer in the Logitech Harmony IR database I use.

Sorry

Hi Alanrichey

Thank you for your consideration to help me.

i guess i have to create the Bin file by my self using the IR learning remote but could you or someone else in this community kindly point me out the correct brand and model of IR learning remote that i should be getting to start this small project.

Have to leave that to someone else as I use an IR Widget, not a learning remote. In fact I would be interested in what is the best/cheapest learning remote as well :D

Like Alan, I use an IR Widget. Much easier, more reliable learning, but unfortunately they are no longer available, although there are plans posted out on the internet thanks to Kevin.

The available remotes vary by country and depending on the vintage, they require either a JP1 or a JP1.2/3 interface cable.

On the store shelves here in the U.S. I only see the RCA RCRP05b.

Here is a thread listing some current remotes

And here is a chart of remotes
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=5515

If you find a remote, you can check to see if it is compatible, and which kind of cable interface you will need to purchase or make, in order to read the remote.

If you want to get more forum input, I suggest you post a topic in the "general" or "beginner" forum area, because most of the forum regulars tend to avoid the sling forum.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Don't forget to mention you are in Australia. Maybe one of your fellow countrymen will come to your aid.

Just to add that rca rcrp05b is not a very reliable remote in my opinion. I ordered three of them and have them shipped to my location. So far two of them have been malfunctioning. One went dead when I plug in the cable inversely. The other just died for no reason when I was using rm to record the remote signal.

My ofa urc-8820b00 has been very durable. I bought it from the forum expert who was selling it. It was an old model.

There is an excel file with all the jp1 capable remote along with their jp1 cable version. You can just pick one of them and buy the corresponding cable for it. Avoid rcrp05b, though.
