Hi,
I just bought a URC-6131 and I'm wondering if there's an easy way to switch inputs on my A/V receiver (RCA RT2500). I've searched around a little bit but haven't found any info. Some of the number keys happen to switch to some inputs, but they set inputs I don't really care about (VCR2, TV, CD); I just need SAT and DVD.

thanks,
Eric

Have you tried RCA_RT2300_Receiver_URC-8910.txt? The RT2300 and RT2500 probably use the same codes.

Greg,
Is that a file I need to use with a jp1 cable or is there something I can extract from that to enter manually. I haven't yet experimented with doing anything other than manual stuff with remotes. Smile

Seeing as how you posted your question in the JP1 forum, Greg naturally assumed you are a JP1 user, and yes, the file he linked to is a JP1 file.

I've been snooping all around, not sure what I'm doing yet. I was hoping such a necessary function of an A/V receiver wouldn't require anything extra. thanks.

To manually get the DVD & SAT inputs, program the AUD device with 1254, and:

DVD
1. press DVD
2. press and hold SET, for 2 blinks
3. enter 0-5-2-2

1. press DVD
2. press and hold SET, for 2 blinks
3. enter 9-9-4
4. press SET, for one blink
5. enter 2-2-7
6. press the AUD device key
7. pick a key

SAT
1. press SAT
2. press and hold SET, for 2 blinks
3. enter 0-3-9-2

1. press SAT
2. press and hold SET, for 2 blinks
3. enter 9-9-4
4. press SET, for one blink
5. enter 2-2-7
6. press the AUD device key
7. pick a key

Now you need to reprogram the DVD & SAT devices with their previous SETUP codes.

If I understand this at all...

MM had us change DVD device, and then SAT device to some particular device code (I assume RCA DVD and SAT for that particular remote).

MM then has us borrow/steal/copy an EFC from those device codes that will NOT effect the RCA DVD device or RCA SAT device directly, but instead selects those inputs on a whole other device, the RCA rec. Happens to be the same EFC from each 'other' device (change receiver input to 'me'!).

Then we reset devices back to our actual, non-RCA DVD and SAT.

Why would RCA put receiver input selection codes in a DVD or SAT remote? (Is this common, should I look for it, etc.?) I have some high end stuff (to me) that only includes receiver or TV on off, vol up down for instance, nothing this particular as extras in a source remote.

How would MM have found this? Is he just brilliant, or again, is this sort of thing common? Would he have had to have owned all 3 pieces and found by chance?

THX, I'm trying hard to understand all this!

I wouldn't say Brilliant, but I would, never mind. Smile

Rca used the discrete on commands from their devices as input commands on the av receiver. So they would work together.
