JP1 Remotes

Can someone tell me what remote I should buy in order to make some custom remotes on my solo slingbox? I have a couple of security dvr's with remotes that would be nice to control from remote.

I read the pdf of how to with the slingbox but confused with what I need. What remote that I can purchase off of Amazon and all the other stuff I would need to get started.

Would be nice if there was a youtube video of this process but anyway sounds cool just need a bit of direction.

A bit confused...the widget does what? Am I correct...I take the dvr remote learn it with a learning remote download the codes and create a bin file to upload to slingbox?

A widget captures the timing data from the original remote. IRScope analyses the data and gives you the information you need to create an RDMU and BIN.

oh ok...that does sound like what I need. Then what is the other way with the learning remote? What would that be for?

Before there was a widget, we recommended that you purchase a learning remote and an interface to read it. The widget is more cost efficient.

Using a remote does the same thing, and that's what most of us do, and for anyone that already has a learning remote and a JP1 cable, they already have everything that they need. But if you have no need for a custom programmed remote, there's no need for you to buy a remote and a cable when you could just get a Widget.

Either way, using a remote or Widget, you could capture the signals from the original remote and then display the data using the JP1 software. This would give you the protocol and all the relevant codes that you need, you would then use that data to create a Slingbox bin file using different JP1 software.

Since your user name begins with diy, I'll assume that some very light assembly would be OK. In that case, follow Tommy's instructions on how to adapt a FTDI USB-232 interface. It is very easy, with no soldering required. About $20 from Mouser. Add to that for example a RCA RCRP05B.

The surcharge is a new thing, so nobody has had to go through it yet. I assume it means that you just take the total of all the goods that you want to order and multiply it by 1.5 (ie, add 50%). We don't know the reason for the surcharge.

hahaha sounds like a gov thing anyway I sent the email for the IR widget thingy.
