Hi All, I have an old Slingbox classic and have set it up with a CVBS input from my Samsung TV , however i do not have a STB so need to control the TV remotely.
I have been through all the Samsung codes on the v2 Slingplayer in the hope if finding one that works with no luck!
Could someone please advise me on the next step or tell me if I am wasting my time!
I found these if they are of any help

Cheers

The Samsung LE-46M86BD uses a standard Samsung code. Most Samsung TVs use the Necx2 7.7 codes. If you haven't been able to control your TV with a Samsung TV code, its probably a defective IR Blaster or poor IR Placement. Check to make sure the IRBlaster is emitting a signal, by watching through a digital camera lens (cell phone will do). If its working experiment with the placement.

AFAIK the Slingbox is not intended to control televisions so I doubt there are any television codes pre-loaded. Therefore, you would need to create a bin file from one of the Samsung TV upgrade files and load it into the Slingbox.
Thanks guys & gals!

Many thanks for your tips. Great tip re the camera i didnt know that, I checked and all looks ok, I am also getting the small red LED light up on the TV with some codes after the power on / off command is sent, however cant find the code to control the thing!
Re the TV software, I have looked everywhere and cant find it, to be honest,i would not know what to do if i found it. I have of course emails samsung but am not expecting a speedy response.
Cheers Paul

Who said anything about TV software? What we're saying is that you'll have to create a new BIN file, using the JP1 software, and load it up.
Now you can see I am a novice!!

I would not know where to start in creating a bin file, though i will give it a go!
Where can i find the software?
I think I am in way over my head now, but hey what the hell!
My PC skills are very basic!

Based on that we know the IRBlasters are firing, and the placement is correct.
I really don't understand the slingbox. Its a confusing concept to me. I've been hoping Alan would step in. What Rob said, about the slingbox not typically being used to control a TV made sense. Since I have never set up a slingbox, I don't know the procedure and don't know if you have to choose device type with the brand. If you were just choosing Samsung without being able to specify TV it would be possible that when you were trying Samsung codes, that they wouldn't be the standard Samsung TV codes (NECx2 7.7).
Based on the assumptions that the slingbox needs to think the TV is a settop box, I've created a cable BIN file of some of the basic TV functions.

I've been watching from the sidelines

You seem to be doing well enough without me
You are quite right that you have to specify a device type, but that is more to decide what type of remote is displayed than the actual BIN files. There is nothing to stop you specifying anything, although there is a 'Another Controllable Device' option that you could use for a TV. But at the end of the day, all you want from the Slingbox is for it to transmit the IR codes you have specified in the BIN files, so I regularly 'lie' to it to get what I want.
The second aspect is the actual code number used. The ONLY use for that is that if the Sling database has a realisitic remote image designed for that code. In which case it will display that image rather than the default, basic, image. I just put C1060 into my SLingbox and it did not download a new image, so you could have used any of the 2000-2046 codes.
I have conformed this TV uses the NECx2 7.7 so as far as I can see your BIN files should be fine. I'll keep watching

Hey hey hey!! We have a fix, a big ta very much to VickyG !!

Firstly, a big thanks to Vicky for helping me out here. The file worked a treat!
Secondly many thanks to all of for your input, you have all been extremely helpful and I am very grateful for all your advice and comments.
I think its great that so many strangers are able to come together and spend their valuable time helping each other in this way. This just gives me more confidence in humankind especially during these difficult times.
Cheers again to everyone.

It doesn't FEEL that I'm doing all that well. If I play in your sandbox, (the slingbox forum) I expect/want you to butt in.

Our software puts out a bin that uses a T prefix if the TV device is selected. Would that be "Another Controllable Device"?
Also along that line, I've extracted your Readme(CBL) and Readme(DVD) files from zip files that I have downloaded while I've bfollowed some of your conversations. I must confess I haven't actually read them, but I assume that having those will improve a sling users experience so I have started including them in my Zip files. Are there any other readme files that I should be using for any other controllable device types ?

I'm glad this worked out. Let us know if there are any other commands you need to make this work as your slingbox stb.

Don't worry, I am always 'hovering' in the background and will leap in if needed. I tend to be careful about treading on other people toes if they are leading the discussion, otherwise chaos can enuse.

Not really. We tend to just use V or S or C as I am not sure if the Slingbox would understand a T. Also worth adding that the reason we don't tend to use Y (for DVD) is that the default DVD remote that Slingbox use is useless and is missing a lot of buttons. So for DVDs we tend to use V.

I would like to think so, but hardly anyone reads them once they see how to install the files.

I have one for Satellites. But the ONLY difference between the files is they are 'seeded' with either C2010, S2010 or V2010 as the code and the setup selections are Cable, Satellite and DVR. Just saves me time in typing the codes in each time

Oh, I hope I haven't been treading on your toes. I kind of like all the voices being heard and hadn't really seen too much toe stepping in the JP1 forums.
Although now that I think on it, when I first came on the scene with a full blown case of JP1-itus, there was a little friction in one of, my first threads and my topic had to be split apart. I was so excited by the extender concept and so frustrated by the learning curve that I was literally sobbing at home trying to get started. In my fevered quest for knowledge, I was asking a million questions in this horrible whinning tone. Capn_trips, sensed my frustration, and was trying to get me to focus on one thing at a time so I could grasp the concepts I needed to get started. Elizabeth, sensed my excitment, and was fanning the flames with all these cool ideas. I really owe a lot to both of them.....

Not so far

I just tend to let whoever answers first to run with it unless they cry for help. It's when conflicting/incorrect/too complex advice is given to the poor inexperienced user that things get messy.
