Radio Shack 15-2107

Post by c014903 »

I have the RS 15-2107 8n1 TouchScreen. I have a JVC VHS player that works with code 0067. For some reason my VCR has stopped responding to this code. The orginal remote for the player still works.

What else can I do to reactivate this code 0067. It is the only code given for this brand of VCR.

All of my other codes for my Satellite, TV, Receiver, DVD all work just fine.

It is setup correctly through the IR program.

Any ideas? Can I get JP1 to force it to work again?

Two possibilities that come to mind:

1) Your VCR and original remote have somehow changed to the alternate JVC VCR code set (VCR/0008). In that case you would need to change them back or use JP1, because without JP1 you don't have access to VCR/0008 on a 15-2107

2) Your 15-2107 VCR key has changed to a different device mode, so it may still be set to 0067 but not VCR/0067. I forget the details of reprogramming that without JP1 on an LCD remote (on a non LCD remote it needs the 992 command). I think it's easier on the LCD remote (though I forget how) and of course it's trivial via JP1.

My 15-2107 VCR key is set to VCR-0067. I will try changing the code to VCR-0008 and see if this works.

Let me make that clearer. VCR/0008 is not included in the 15-2107. To use it you must find an upgrade file for it and install that upgrade via JP1.

Do you have a JP1 cable or were you just considering getting one?

If you have a JP1 cable, you can start with any of the JVC VCR upgrade files in the KM or RM upgrade areas and change the device number from 67 to 83.

VCR/0067 is internally device number 67.
VCR/0008 is internally device number 83.

It doesn't matter to your 15-2117 what you use as a setup code in editing the upgrade file, but using 0008 would reduce confusion if you later share the file with others.

Yes. I have an upgrade cable and have been using it for a year now. I haven't actually modified a device code in a long time. I remember using the KM and when I had to modify device code 0309 for my Technics receiver. I have pulled out the Welcome to JP1 instructions to get familiar with all of this again.

Unplug the vcr, then plug it back in, make sure the first IR command it sees, is the 2107 programmed to VCR0067.

I assume you mean the power command of VCR/0067.

I assume you're saying these steps will switch the VCR back from the secondary device number to the primary one.

But what switched the JVC remote from primary device number to secondary (causing this problem) and how can that remote be switched back?

Yes my post was a an assumption, the OP didn't volunteer a model #.

It doesn't have to be a power command, if you plug it in and manually turned it on, whatever IR code it sees, that is what's going to control it from now until it loses power again.

Yes.

The OEM remote? It depends on the age of the vcr, you might have to:

press and hold A/B key, then press #1, then either OK or STOP.

Excellent, it worked, I unplugged the VCR and plugged it back in and my 2107 now operates my JVC VCR with 0067. Thank You again.
